If anyone here has ever played Warhammer 40k, they will know about a thing called escalation. It's where the game gradually changes, starting first with scouts and light weapons, progressing to special weapons and assault teams, and finishing with an all out tank war. I wanted to do something similar with a halo map, relying on the delyayed respawn settings to create a map that gradually shifts from basic weapons to heavy vehicles. Are there any maps like this already? If not, do you guys have any advice? (P.S. If this post isn't in the right place, I apologise. I'm still new here...)
As of yet, I don't think there is a map in Halo that takes full advantage of the delayed respawns to create this sort of escallation you're talking about. The one thing that you would need to be careful of is duration of the game. Since you only have three minutes to play with in dealing with the respawns, you would need to fine tune the map and gametype around making it really fast-paced and able to have one round completed in no more than five minutes. I'm guessing low shields and/or high damage modifiers are in order so that people will be respawning a lot and able to use the vehicles and heavy weapons that begin spawning later in the game, and try not to change the field too much as the heavier weapons spawn (tanks need more room to play, though they also need bigger cover, so do what you will). I would put this map and gametype on Avalanche under the arch section in the middle, as that is the largest, flattest area on any map where you can spawn immovable objects. Note that Avalanche does have flying vehicles: do not use them at all as it would make the gameplay take too long. All in all I really like the idea, and if you could pull it off, it would be truly amazing. Good luck. ^_^
