Runway Click Here to Download This is a completely asymmetrical map inspired by Chill Out and Prisoner. The map consists of several rooms, each room is linked to the rooms around it by a number of paths. A very large Prisoner-esque tube (The Runway) connects the main upper room and hallway to a perfect reiteration of the Shotgun room from Chill Out. From there you can choose a number of paths to go to the main room, located below the room where Invisibility Spawns, or to the room where Rocket spawns. You can follow a flight of stairs to find a mancannon that launches you to the Rocket or take a Teleport that leads you to an area in the main room. You could also follow 2 tunnels into a lower room where a Trip-Mine spawns and follow a teleport to the Upper Hallway beside the Invisibility Spawn room. From the upper hallway you can take the runway tube to the Mauler room, teleport to Mauler room, go down into the Invisibility Spawn room, or drop down into the Brute Shot room. From the Brute Shot room you can launch to the Rocket, teleport to the main room, or drop into the Trip-Mine room and head out the tunnels into the lower-Rocket room, or teleport to the Upper Hallway. From the upper hallway you can go to a number of paths, which have been mentioned - or you can head to the Invisibility Spawn room, jump across to the bridge which takes you down a tunnel and turn into the Mauler Room. If you so choose you can also jump on top of the Runway from Rocket Spawn or by crouching jump from the Upper Hallway, once on the top of the Runway you can jump to an upper area that over-looks the Main Room and Rocket Room. There are 3 Sender and 3 Receiver Ports in Runway. A Sender port in the Upper Hallway takes you to a Receiver in the Mauler Room. A sender in the Brute Shot Room takes you to a Receiver in the Main Room beside the Bridge. A Sender in the Trip-Mine room takes you to a Receiver in the Upper Hallway. Weapons/Equipment: Invisibility - 90 Secs Overshield - 60 Secs Rocket - 150 Secs, 1 Clip Hammer - 180 Secs Mauler - 90 Secs, 1 Clip Carbine - 30 Secs, 2 Clips Needler - 30 Secs, 2 Clips Brute Shot - 30 Secs, 2 Clips Trip Mine - 120 Secs Sniper Rifle - 90 Secs, 2 Clips Plasma Grenades (4) - 10 Secs As you can see the map is incredibly intricate. It is not your typical Forge map in any way. When downloading the map you will also want to download Runway Slayer (A variant of Slayer designed for Runway), or create your own. Runway Slayer has shields and speed set to MLG settings, along with Primary Weapon: Battle Rifle and Secondary Weapon: Assault Rifle. "This is one of the best Forge maps I have seen" - Krazy Kazi "I'm not gonna lie, this map is great." - Big Spat "Dude, this map is really nice." - xZonked "I hate you." - Captain Mighty "Wow, last night was amazing" - My fiance "I didn't even say that, you made that quote up" - My fiance -Windburry At the request of MLG Forums an MLG Version has been created: Click Here to Download Runway for MLG or Click Here to Download the original Runway
First, I was totally gonna use the name Runway for a map. Now I'm mad. Second, I didn't read that big block of text you have there. I could tell by the pics that I wanted to download this map (interlocking always gets my attention). The text seemed to be describing the layout, and I'm gonna walk around in the map myself so there's no reason to read it. Maybe you could format the text a little better. Third, those quotes from your fiance were hilarious. I'm gonna download this, but since you used the name Runway, to quote Captain Mighty, "I hate you."
Very nice looking map. From the pics I like the look of it. Downloaded. P.S. Nice random quotes at the end.
That's cool man. Yeah I used Runway because one of the definitions of Runway basically means very large tube, and the key feature of the map is the very large tube that runs down the center of it . But thanks. I would format the text better but it's basically impossible to understand it anyway, it's just too hard to explain the layout of this map. Edit: Thanks Maelstrom, let me know what you think.
I don't normally review maps this quickly, but something about your post made me want to get right to it. And I'm glad I did because this looks like an awesome map. I definitely saw the influence from Chill Out, but not so much from Prisoner. I don't like remakes at all, and I think that anyone who wants to do a remake should do what you did instead. They should make a new map with rooms and layout inspired by a map. The interlocking on this map is superb. Everything looks placed perfectly. And although I tried really hard, I couldn't get out of the play area. I'm not going to download the custom game variant, but I am definitely playing this map with BR starts. Otherwise there would not be enough distance weapons to go around. Why no King of the Hill support? A map like this that has lots of cool geometry should have King of the Hill, because that way you can force people to fight it out over every inch of your map, instead of a couple different "hot spots." Also, what would you say if I said "One Flag CTF?" I'm not familiar enough with the flow of the map to suggest different bases, but I'd like to know if you thought about any objective games. As a side note, my all time favorite map/game combo was 1 Flag CTF Fast on Lockout, from Halo 2, so you don't need actual "bases" for a great CTF map. I think this map could be really great for One Flag if it was set up correctly. Also, I forgot to check out the Slayer mode. Did you place respawn areas? I'm totally sold on the benefit of respawn areas, and I now believe that all maps should have them. I like the layout of this map so much, that if you don't set this up for King of the Hill or CTF, I'm probably going to do it myself. Great map. I can't wait to play this, and I'll almost certainly let you know how the game went.
Wow, thanks man. I'll look into setting it up for King of the Hill right now. I just created an MLG version at the request of the MLG Forums. You can click here to download the MLG version if you wish.
Thanks man, I haven't tried that yet, but I bet it would be pretty fun. Keep in mind there is also an MLG Version for anyone that prefers that sort of thing. I prefer the original, it's just really fun for a lot of people, but I imagine the MLG version would be better for smaller groups.
Somehow I had never noticed the option to set it up for KOTH and CTF, I'm gonna get to that later tonight. I'm gonna see about setting it up for Oddball as well. I'll update you when that is complete. By respawn areas, do you mean spawn points?
No, not at all. Respawn points are where you respawn. Respawn areas help the game decide which respawn point is the best one for you to respawn in. Without respawn areas, the game wants to spawn you far from enemies and near teammates. That often means that it spawns you in a corner of the map, specifically the farthest corner from your enemies. It makes is so that respawning is horribly predictable. With respawn areas set in different locations of the map and with different "respawn order" numbers, the game says, "ok, it's time to spawn you in area 3, that area contains 6 respawn points, I'll put you in the farthest one from your enemy." Respawning is much less predictalbe. However, it sometimes means that you respawn next to or behind an enemy. You can reduce this by making the respawn areas large enough to cover two rooms. Also, there is nothing wrong with overlapping respawn areas.
The map looks very well done from the pics. I like the way things are interlocked in pic 2, with the half staircase and the two boxes. I haven't played the map yet, but it looks like it will be very good.
lol, "I hate you". Great post, I love the quotes, and amazing interlocking. Making an MLG version was cool also. Now if only my xbox wasn't broken....
I too love the map. However, it seems like half of the map is an exact replica of Chillout. Did you try to remake it, then decided to do something different instead? Sorry, it's not really a complaint. I think the map is awesome.
Nah I just wanted it to be a spin-off of Chill Out. Chill Out re-imagined, but only one room is a replica, and that is the "shotgun room" from Chill Out, but it's different as well because it has a giant tube (the runway) coming into it from a sidewall near the roof.
Actually, now that I think about it. I had built the upper hallway and camo room first, and had a huge area that had similarities to Epitaph, but I saw that it wasn't going to work. So I scrapped that and decided to build the shotgun room from chillout. At that point I decided I should add a tunnel similar to prisoner, but I only had one area big enough, and that was the center of the map, so I made it connect to the shotgun room and go all the way to the upper hallway. The tunnel eventually was so long that it wasn't like Prisoner anymore, but Prisoner is what caused me to create it. After that the map just started building itself, and bringing in elements of chill-out just felt right.
I Downloaded and played it and I really like the geometry. There were just so many ways to manuever that it would be relatively impossible to feel trapped in any one room. However, you seemed to be having some budgetary problems resulting in the map only containing power weapons. You might consider deleting a few objects temporarily allowing for use of the Unlimited Budget Glitch.
