Sadly, I always try to do one map, then I find out that my imagination is stranded. :frustrated: I always think that after I make part of the map, that my map is going to be worthless and people will hate it. Even though I made a new concept of bunkers(Boxer Bunker, where one open box is upside down and another, with upside up, is placed on the same spot at the first one.), I feel that my map is worthless. Is there any way to help me motivate myself?
I used to have the exact same problem. Try using foundry designer (link at the top of the page) to help plan out your maps. Try thinking your maps through and at use your emagination. At the same time taking into count foundrys limits like size and # of objects. Alwase make your maps as consistant as possable and remember that gameplay comes before aesthletics. Hope this helped!
yes, it helps a bit, but I always am the adventurous guy, which means I usually start out with a creative idea in my head... then I just start going into overdrive forge mode.
Yeah, try Foundry designer though, I think you have to think about what people want, new stuff, try coming up with something really inovative, something that hasn't been done. Try putting everything so neatle and perfectly placed, try to make the weapon placement sync with the map, try making the gameplay of the map as good as possible, start making a map, if you don't like it, edit it, and if you go on like you will probably eventually have a good map.
As far as I know, the only thing I've done I haven't seen yet is the bunker... you can jump in it, but you can place a sniper and teleporter in it... hey, maybe that's good for CTF Maps...
Finishing The hardest thing in forge and in life is finishing. Sometimes I will have a great structure made and know that it is going to become an amazing map, but I get blocked in the dead spaces. Usually I'll have 4-5 maps going at once so that when I get stuck on one I can get away and come back to it. It's easy to start something but hard to finish. Push through. Even if the map doesn't light the world on fire, at least you can say you finished it.
make a map on one of the ones that came with the game. Just finish a simple one and then go back to foundry. works every time for me but i'm not sure why...
