Yes, I know. It is a fact so commonly known by players that I might as well be telling you that the sniper has two levels of zoom. Most people know that weapon lowering in Halo 3 is possible, but only while in a Local game, and only with a fairly annoying button combination. Why Bungie did this, nobody knows. With the incredible addition of Forge and Theater mode, the ability to create Halo Machinima was thrown into the next (and high-def) generation. This was until people found that you could no longer lower weapons on LIVE. Many of the popular videos made in Halo 3 have the guns lowered, as they are made locally and not on LIVE. Any player interested in making a video with his friends was forced to waving a gun in his face, even if his intentions in the video are friendly. Obviously, this does not work in a video that is meant to be taken seriously.

What am I getting at? Here is my point:

I recently stumbled across some Youtube videos with a clan that was dedicated to bringing back one of the most useful parts of filming in Halo. The clan has started a group on Bungie.net that is dedicated to changing the weapon problem that the makers of Machinima face. Their plan is to absorb as many people as possible and have them all pledge to not play on the one year anniversary of the release of Halo 3 (September 25th, 2008). Founded one month ago, they have enrolled about 300 players who are willing to sacrifice one day to force Bungie to change Halo 3 for the better. Their current goal is to attract the attention of larger Machinima groups and persons (such as Machinima.com, Darkspire Films and DigitalPh33r) in hopes of achieving the main goal of weapon lowering on LIVE.

Machinima is as much a part of the user-created content category as forged maps are. If any of you watch Machinima or think of making it, or can survive one day without Halo (even be it the anniversary), I urge you to sign up with the group. What if there was a crucial aspect of Forge that existed only in certain conditions but was needed in all of them? What would you do then?

    LOWER THE GUNS
    Love,
    Players

For more info on the subject of gun lowering and what exactly I am talking about, refer to this video:

Sidenote: Although it seems I am new, I have been on Forgehub for a few months, playing the maps and more. All of this was on my friend's Xbox, but now I have my own and am trying to be more active in this community. I was in TGIF 12 and have started posting. Eventually (hopefully), I may release a map or two.

im not sure if thats a good idea because when recording on live people tend to use there mics which results in a real shitty sound quilty(please excuse my french)but when on a local xbox they are forced to use a separate audio recording devise which results in a more pleasant viewing experience.

Even though it would help greatly, there's not a chance in hell would Bungie do this.

Why not? The ability to lower your weapon is already implemented. In Halo 2, simply holding the Left Trigger will lower and keep lowered the weapon (although it will not show on your screen as such). For something as simple as this, I think Bungie could easily alter the commands of the game to allow the weapon to lower (in third person) for the exact same controller command. I see no reason why Bungie should not (and will not) do it. They simply refuse. It has been almost a year, and no update has brought this into the game, despite hundreds of messages sent to Bungie staff and numerous videos by the community wondering "Why cant we lower weapons?"

By not playing on what could be easily called "Halo Day", we show Bungie our annoyance at what they have done, or rather, what they have not. Also, I would think playing Halo 3 offline and not signed into LIVE would be sufficient enough for the group, as the goal is a mass multiplayer signoff. You can still forge what you want... Or play one of those other games (like Burnout).

Most people who make Machinima use the lobby or Skype to record audio, and those that don't still turn out quite well. Machinima are usually dubbed during the editing process. As long as severe lag is not present, the ability to play even good quality music over LIVE is possible, so whether or not people talking sounds bad is irrelevant.

I just don't think they would bother. Since when has Bungie ever listened to fans?

    Oh boy...

Bungie listened to the fans by giving them Halo Custom Edition on the PC so modding could go full scale. Bungie listened to fans when it gave them Xbox LIVE in Halo 2. Bungie listened to fans to bring back the AR. Bungie listened to fans when it made the Forge, something almost as powerful as modding, but legal and easy. Bungie listened to fans when it gave them Theater mode, something that would revolutionize the Machinima industry (which was gaining popularity by RedvsBlue, another thing Bungie listened to). Bungie listened to fans when they made Grifball a DoubleXP weekend event, even though it was not designed in any way by Bungie staff. Bungie listened to fans by adding RedvsBlue content to both Halo 2 and 3. Bungie listened to fans when they made the ultimate forge map, Foundry. Bungie also listened to fans when they remade Hang Em' High for Halo 2 as well as Lockout and Chill Out for Halo 3. etc, etc, etc

The list goes on. Bungie listens. We know they do.
