Hi, ForgeHub Community. I've got a predicament. I am making a gametype, and require players to start out with the Mauler as primary or secondary weapon. I believe I have seen this done before, or else I would think it impossible, as it is not one of the weapons I can select from. I would appreciate any help.
Uhh, No..there isn't an option in customs to start with a Mauler. But you could just throw maulers down at spawns if you need to.

you know, I just realized... seriously, Halo 3 has some of the best multiplayer customization I know, and yet, you can't start with half of the weapons? Where's the logic... sorry for the pic
You were probably playing a mod, its the only way to achieve that. =[ Sorry I couldn't be of more help, the only other way to do it would be to start the players with a weapon that is useless on the map, so they HAVE to pick up the maulers. The only example I could think of is a plasma pistol, but that only works if your Gametype has NO shields. Other than that you may have to rely on honour rules.
Ty for the help, my original goal was to make player melee, so Turbo has enlightened me to the fact that PPs only damage shields, so Im good now ty all.
i think i know why you can't have certin weapons to start. because there aren't 16 or more of them that can be placed on a map, so everyone couldn't get them
You'd think they would fix that in an update or something. I mean, it seems a pretty serious design flaw that you can't set it up for players to start with half the weapons in the game... *gets to PMing lukems on B net*
The single shot can damage health, but the damage is low, and the range is crappy, so I wouldn't worry.
Actually, the range for single-shots by the PP is pretty far (as evidenced by several points in campaign where the PP guys standing with the CC guys shoot first), but as you said, the damage is that of being punched in the arm by a two-year-old.
you can also lower weapon damage to 90% or something. Maulers will still do enough damage for the shoot and melee kill, and pp would do hardly anything at all (less than it already does)
My suggestion would be to have people start withpistols and but maulers on the spawn points. Its wierd I remember starting with a mauler in fiesta...
Well for fiesta it makes sense, because it spawns you with any random weapon that the map supports - so any weapon in the game's engine besides the super-power weapons (i.e. turrets, missile pods, and flamethrowers).
