*Update* 12/29/08 - Boxworld V2 is released. Click here to view it. Boxworld is my first competitive map, and is based (not a complete remake, but close) on a well-known Counter-Strike map called fy_iceworld. Like Iceworld, it is a small map; but unlike Iceworld, it does not have every weapon in the game placed in front of both teams' spawn areas. Boxworld is not to scale to Iceworld and the structure in the middle of the map is different to the terrain in Iceworld (not just looks but the geometry as well). Number of players: 2-8 Supported Gametypes: Team Slayer Team Oddball Multi Flag Neutral Bomb Team King Weapons placed on map: 4 x Battle Rifle; 2 spare clips; 30 sec respawn. 2 x SMG; 2 spare clips; 30 sec respawn. 1 x Shotgun; 0 spare clips; 90 sec respawn. 2 x Sniper Rifle; 0 spare clips; 90 sec respawn. Screenies: One of the hallways, sniper is visible here Overview The middle of the map This is a shot of my friend nade-jumping to score the flag. Note: You don't have to nade-jump to grab the flag, but you must nade-jump or get a buddy to boost you in order to score the flag. Somebody smashed somebody! Thanks to my friends for helping me test the map, and thanks to all who take the time to look at and download Boxworld! I hope you will all enjoy!
From what I can tell it looks very nice BUT it would be helpful for others if you added more pictures. You had enough details though.
Although this looks small it looks cool. Its a nice idea to have a small quik paced map based around a simple structure. However it looks to small for FFA or 3 vs 3 and it doesn't look like there is much spawn room for doubles with the shotgun in the middle. I could see this for oddball but not default CTF. If it were a custom gametype where it took alot of times to score than it might be kind of fun. If you made a custom CTF gametype than I would definately download that. I might be wrong about the gametype and the size of the map with a shotgun on it (sorry if I am) but I will DL anyway.
the map looks like it was made very well. i like how the double boxes were used to make the whole structure. the game looks a little small and it looks like people die a lot but fun at the same time.
Unfortunately, the map will not work well with any FFA gametypes because of the layout of the spawn points. This is built for team games rather than FFA. However, I did place many spawn points on each side as to prevent spawn camping as much as possible.
I have played CS: Source before and it does looks alot like it but probably the best bet now would be to make this on Avalanche as you would get the snowy feel to make it even better, this looks great for oddball but my suggestions are to change the map and lower the flag cap points because it would be too slow for gameplay. But all in all a good remake 4.5/5 but a 5 with my suggestions
I don't have the Legendary Map pack T_T Also, the default CTF gametype goes to three caps which should be suitable for this. I haven't actually tested it with many people at once but I think it should still work.
map looks pretty cool, good interlocking and geomerging, loks like it would be better for small parties.
lol it looks so simple but fun id play with a custom gametype as well it would make the map have so much more meaning it looks fun tho
It certainly looks very nice in it's symetrical layout and looks very nice from the overall pics, but i have a few overall problems with the set-out. Firstly, the shottie. I can understand why it's there, but a 90 sec respawn time isn't that long for a weapon that is going to dominate everything else on the map (scuse Ball and Flag). Though, to your credit, im going to download the map and run some games, not just throw criticism at you. Ill resevre my rating till after that. The next issue is the hole "Drop Flag. Throw Nade. Grab Flag. Run Forward. JUMP! Lose Shields." approach to flag scoring. While its an innovative and certainly interesting idea, if youre playing 2v2, your going to be sitting ducks if you try and do that. As i see it there are 2 approaches, nade jump, which means you're enemy can possible find you and kill you while in the process, or team-mate boost, which means you're enemy could kill you both with a well placed grenade and a BR. But the map looks good and the interlocking is clean and it's nicely symetrical, so i'll download. Well done. ***EDIT*** If you took any of the above as criticism, forget it. This map is great! The shottie isn't overly powerful and the hallways are nice and wide. KoTH works well, but perhaps some different hill placings? otherwise its just one big fight for the middle - which is fun - but gets old. Congratulations on a great map. 4/5
i like how you need to grenade jump or jump on someone to score it, thats cool and unique about this map, i like how this looks too, however the walls in pic 1 might be atad higher
Thanks for all the feedback, guys! BTW...why did you only give me a 3/5 when you didn't say anything wrong about the map...?
