I have decided to create a series of helpful tutorials for GIMP.
They will range from beginner to intermediate.
    Nothing too advanced here kiddos.

    Tutorials finished:

    Borders/Transparent Borders

Today we'll be learning how to add solid borders and transparent borders in the GIMP.
This tutorial is for beginners so dont be intimidated.

    Solid Border:
-Create a new layer and place it above all others
-Select your foreground color for the border
-Select your new layer and go to Edit-Stroke selection
-Select a pixel size until you get something you like

    Transparent Border:
-Create a new layer and place it above all others
-Select black as your foreground color
-Go to Edit>Stroke Selection and select 10 as your pixel size
-Change your foreground color as white
-Go to Edit>Stroke Selection and select 8 as your pixel size
-Change your foreground color to black
-Go to Edit>Stroke Selection and select 2 as your pixel size
-Set the mode of the layer to Overlay

Thanks for taking your time to read my tutorial.

    Shiny Text/Outline

We will be learning how to add shine to text and how to add a border on the text.
This tutorial is also for beginners.

    Shiny Text:
-Create a new layer and place it above your text layer
    -Choose the ellipse select tool
-Create a selection where the bottom of the circle is overlapping the text
-Bucket fill it with white-Then set the opacity to 25%
    Text Outline:
-Create a new layer and place it below your text layer
-Right click on text layer and choose alpha to selection
    -Re-select your new layer
-Go to Select>Grow and grow it to whatever suits your text
-Then bucket fill it with black

    Thanks for reading my tutorial.

    Background/Render Matching

Today, we will be learning an easy way to create your own background using your render.
    This tutorial is for beginners.

    -Open a new project
    -Take out your render un-sized
-Paste your render until it fills the entire layer
-Go to Filters>Noise>Pick and set everything at 100 and check the randomixe box
    -Duplicate your layer
-Go to Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set both to 5px

    Outcome:

    Wisps

Today, we will learn how to make "wisps".
This tutorial is set at an intermediate level.

-Make a new layer and paste in your render
    -Create another new layer
-Take out your selection tool and make zig zags going across the render
-Then click right next to the small dots to make little squares
-Drag these squares until you get a rounded bend at the edges
-Then on your new layer, go to Edit>Stroke path and select the paintbrush option
-Make a new layer and place it below the other new layer
-Make the brush about 2x bigger and go to Edit>Stroke path and use the same options
-Now go to Filters>Blur>Gaussian>Blur and use the default settings
-Now right click on the render layer and pick alpha to selction
-Go to both your wisp layers and erase every other crossover on the render

    Outcome:

This seems like a great guide for new gimp users. I am currently trying to download it. I used to use Photoshop 6 on my PC, but I am trying to get gimp for mac to work on my new imac.
