A simple but very intense idea for a map - make a small room with tons of mancannons, grav lifts, and stuff flying around (including the players). Get it here:

    Custom map

    Gametype

    And here are some screenshots:

Inside the house itself. Note the huge amount of stuff flying around, including dumpsters and wire spools (not visible).

A couple more in-house screens to give you a better picture:

When you start the map (or respawn) you actually start outside the house for a second or two:

Fortunately, our cleverly constructed fence box gets players into the house quite quickly:

The screens really don't do this map justice, though - this map is nuts. Two of my playtesters (including Glimflicker, who has today's front page feature for Bungie 500) said it was one of the most insane maps they'd played. With dumpsters and wire spools and barrels flying everywhere, grenades and grav hammers going off continuously, and everybody shooting from one mancannon or grav lift to the next, it's almost overwhelming how much is happening at once, but in a good way.

Give it a shot and let me know if you have any feedback about how to make it better.

This looks really fun and chaotic. However the chaotic maps are beginning to get old. I already have at least 3 of them, maybe if you can explain to me how your map is better than the others, maybe I'll dl.

I play a lot of those maps too and I agree with getting bored with them. This map is different because:

    a. it's more chaotic than even those maps (seriously, you have no idea until you actually play this thing)
    b. there's still some measure of control and strategy (the middle intentionally has no mancannons/grav lifts to facilitate this)
c . you get a breather for a second or two upon respawning to catch your breath (I think this is really important for chaotic maps, actually)
    d. we took a lot of care in making it (Glimflicker and I spent a lot of time lining up walls, testing out which items worked in the house, insuring people always went in the teleporters in the fence box, etc.)

Like I said, though, you really have to try it yourself to see the appeal in this map. This map, more than most, can't really be captured well in screenshots. I tested this map with maybe 10 different people and all of them liked it a lot - give it a try and see for yourself.

I can't personally speak about the other chaotic maps from experience, but I have yet to grow tired of this one. Perhaps it is due to my involvement in construction, but I've thoroughly enjoyed playing it in testing and beyond. It's a very simple map, and it's pure joy when you splatter your friends with flying dumpsters and other debris.

What maps have you seen like this one? I haven't played any maps like this. Give it a shot before you make a definitive judgment, too; it plays faster/crazier than most maps I've seen, even of this type.

My map, MurderBlender, is essentially the same thing (not sure who came first, though), and I'm sure there are others out there. It's harder to stay on the ground in mine, and you do spawn right into the craziness, so I guess it just depends on what you like. Looks nice, though. Glad other people enjoy chaotic little maps like this.

Maybe. The concept is simple enough that I would expect at least one or two other people to think of the idea. But I tried to have good execution and actually make it playable, which was the tough part (as you imply in your thead as well).

As far as who came first, I think we probably did this around the same time (mine was posted later but I spent a couple weeks polishing the idea before posting), and I didn't use anyone else's map for inspiration anyway.

I like your map too though. The round look using the boxes is interesting. I'll have to try yours soon and see what I can learn from it for mine. Thanks for the props.
