I mean i understand that original ideas are becoming rarer and rarer, but it seems not that if a map is placed on Foundry people automatically assume it will be a generic crate party map.

This is probably due to the fact that almost everyone is making their maps on Foundry these days.

Unfortunatly for the people who actually do make original maps on Foundry, most of the maps on Foundry (mainly on B.net) are "generic crate party maps" or other over used ideas.

i suppose it just annoys me that ive seen some good maps there that have been ignored for that reason. I should make a link thread.

Foundry is a great palette when it comes to map creation. However, most "forgers" don't think outside the box and end up copying an already existing, winning concept. Great maps stick out of the crowd no matter what, it's all I have to say.

I think if Bungie added some different skins to choose from to cover up the ugly green boxes we have to deal with then foundry would get tons more attention.

The thing is, whenever you make something that is "to original" people say they don't know what they're doing. At the same time, you don't want your map to be boring.

My opinion on this topic is that if you have a good idea for a map, that could be better if made on Foundry, you should always use Foundry. Usually, if it's not best on Foundry, it'll be best on Standoff or Rat's Nest (or sometimes Last Resort) when this happens, the same applies, use the appropriate map to forge.

My opinion is this, foundry was a revolutionary thing for forge builders. It almost allows you to create anything you can think of. Now picture this, you have people making amazing original maps on foundry using it to its fullest ability, and people who just can't seem to get the right idea... They see these amazing maps and take ideas from here or there. Now this causes original ideas to pop up all over the place. It took me about a week just to come up with an original idea. I even researched it to make sure it was never done before.

    SO

forge masters + foundry = original maps
original maps / original ideas = crate party maps

    as simple as that =)

That is why good maps that are well made and varry from others that a forgers has made, especially if they use interlocking with the map geometry and other objecs, can most likely be a good map. Although most of the time... If the map does resemble the foundry geometry it can ruin the whole feel. That is why people like more closed in maps. Then they dont have to see the same old boring gray of the walls and low ceilings. Then again... The same old textures of the objects are growing to a point of annoyance to me. So the real question is not "Why not Foundry?" , but "Why Not?". Why not go further? Hey Bungie? Its only one more step around the corner. A few little things that could be done to perfect forge. Why not?

I was thinking the same thing recently. i feel bungie should've used the 'object properties' dialog to a further extent; i.e, instead of just for respawn times and traits, it should've also be used for things like color. It wouldn't have required much coding at all either, just a quick if color == red, then apply texture "red-double-box-open" or whatever. Just a few new textures would've been needed. with new maps around the corner, maybe this will happen...hopefully

the problem with foundry for me is the enviroment is all wrong for practically everything...however, pretty consistently the amount of items and space for an idea (at least my ideas, which are usually weird) needs to be on foundry...ive seen a few good uses of other maps though...Last Level by Asper49 to say one of my favorites

I think that Foundry is a great map for forging because its a place were anything can happen. I dont know why everyone thinks that foundry maps are all the same!
