How deep can geo-merged objects go? I tried it with a single box and its was fine until it was about half merged with the ground after which when I tried to make it go deeper, it vibrated it little before dropping off into the ground and disappearing. I've tried at least 6 times now and it still keeps disappearing into the ground. Please Help.

While using the door method you can't go much farther then half, but using the old (better) method you can go as far down as you want.

    I use the door method.
Its not inferior, its just a little less tedious than the other method.

There's a difference in geo-merged depth when using the door method instead of the old one?

The old method just seems to yield much more consistent results.

So when using the door method, the box does not ALWAYS disappear into the ground halfway through? Meaning if I try like 20 times it will not disappear on 1 of the times?

Maybe if you get really lucky, but you should stick to the old method if you want professional looking results.

You think using the door method until just before it disappears then using the old method is faster or just using the old method from the start?

I'm not sure I really need what I'm geo-merging to look professional looking because what I want is just textures on the ground like small rocks or boulders sticking out of the ground.

I use the door method, and I can go down all the way until the object I am pushing down disappears from being deleted from hitting the out-of-map barrier. What you should do is properly align your object with extra doors that aren't sticking into it, so it acts like a guide.

I know that but the box will follow the guide downward until about half then disappear looking as if it fell through the ground. Sometimes the box even interlocks with the surrounding guides and ends up slanted...

Why has nobody answered the guys question?

When the box sinks underground, save and quit while still holding the box. If you guides are positioned correctly it will almost always appear merged correctly when you start the game again.

If you want to go lower than halfway merged the door method sucks balls. The "old" method is far more predictable and reliable and gives flawless results. With few exceptions (such as merging walls at angles to create bumpless ramps), the door method is always inferior imo.

    But its quick and easier.
Its more convenient if all you want is to push a wall a little bit into the ground, and those kind of little things, IMO. But in most other cases the old way is superior. Does the old technique even have a name, or is it just "The old way"

What I need is to geo-merge a single box into the ground while its on a tip, and merge it in deep enough so only the opposite tip is above the ground, creating a sort of rock jutting out.

If I were to do this, wouldn't I have to geo-merge another single box into the ground so as to force the other box deeper in? Also, is there any way to stop the single box I'm geo-merging from merging with the bridges, walls or other boxes I use as braces or guides?

Sounds hard, I accept this challenge using a sexecellent mallet copyrighted diagram.

Thats is what I would do. Position a box on some stairs at 45 degrees, surround it with guides and merge it through the stairs and into the floor. You may need to combine merging methods, using the door to force the box to merge in the correct direction, then the box from the "old" method will do the rest. This is what i would do, I can't guarantee it will work.

A very useful diagram, + rep for you Mallet.
IMO a lot of forging is trial & error.
