What Is Considered Art?

I think it is your art when you take the stock photo yourself or take a photo (i.e. Halo screenshot) and render your character. You must also make all the C4Ds and brushes used in the sig. Same with the text. That is when the you can call the sig totally and completely yours.

 

Art can be alot of things, but for me I appreciate a piece of art by how much skill, effort or thought the artist has put into his/her art. For traditional art I think if you take other peoples art and make a collage then I would consider that ripping but if you take say newspaper pages and make a collage out of it then I wouldn't consider that ripping. For digital art its hard to say whether something is ripping or not but most of the time it is quite obvious for example when someone has taken a piece of art, cropped it and displayed it on their sig gallery thread.

 

i concur with dizfunk. taking pictures and calling them your own is obviously not art.. i think if you take a render and create something out of it, its yours, but you would have to do something... obvious

anyway, each piece would have to looked at upon a case by case basis. legally, however, copyright laws state that if you used someone else's work, it must look substantially different from the original piece. again, this has to be taken case by case.

If you use any materials which are not provided expressively for public use such as stock images or resources then it is plagiarism. If you use anything without the creators permission I would always consider it ripped to some degree, but with casual graphic design like we see here its not too important. Do not edit existing work like other peoples sigs or work on deviant art and its fine really.

As for the question of what is art. Hah. What isn't art?

You didn't make halo and you didnt make Cinima4D. What makes images from those sources acceptable and others not?

 

I think art is anyone ways of expressing themselves of doing something to something else.Now Modern Art might seem like a bunch of worthless crap piled together but to others it tells a story.Its all about someones eye on something.One mans trash is another mans treasure is a great line that should be the definition of art.But heres the real definition.
