This doesn't just apply to the maps that they put on there but the screenshots too, but ill stick to the maps seeing as its forgehub. But anyways im really sick of bungie favourites being, well, not that good. After downloading and playing Anvil and Boxed In i was severely dissapointed with the qualitly and creativeness of these maps. Anvil, although very playable felt like just a re-arrangement of foundry, but boxed in really got me narked. It was like someone just deleted half of foundry, put a wall in the middle and said 'done'. Its not even a good wall! You just grenade jump over it! Making oddball heaps of fun. To me bungie favourites should be the cream of the crop, the best maps out there to download. Now these maps arn't bad, its just that there are many better ones out there that have SO much creativity and good ideas implemented into them. Take Citadel for example, it has heaps of new ideas in it and i love just running about by myself and thinking wow, real thought has gone into these contraptions. The sad thing is that people might think these 'favourites' really are the best in the world and never see some of the genious on this site. Its not all bad though dont get me wrong im chuffed the pelican made it on.
I'm pretty sure that both of those maps were made by Bungie employees. Probably why they were put on the favorites.
bungie favorites are decided upon by a group of random maps pulled out of there forums. they pull sum out then vote on the best. also, if an employee makes a map then it is put in the favorites. i saw a faq on this once. dunno if it is 100% accurate though
Well, obviously employee maps are put in the favs because they want to advertise their own maps, lol. Although rarely any of the B net favs are as good compared to FH I think it gives you some sort of what the creators of the game are looking for. (They must not have good taste)
I figured it was based on download statistics. But you're right, I hate that thing. Anvil is barely passable, and Boxed In is inept. Just like how Seven Seas used to be up there, just because Bungie put it there once and people DLed it because they thought it was good. Not to be ranting on the creators of the maps, respectively, but they don't deserve to be up there. Like how there was a picture of a guy firing a laser that made tops. Personally, I think if it were Bungie Favorites, Bungie would actually make sure it was good.
Ya, its a lot a favoritism. Anything that an employee makes that is "cool", they make it a fav. which is annoying because then those bad maps get the attention when there are relativly unknown awsome maps on here... And that laser pic was pointless!
Somebody stole the Mt.Killamanjaro from somebody else and posted it and got into Bungie Favorites, proof is in the posts in that the real author posted a full 11 days first.
yeah i think its crap too. I swear they said on a demo of Halo 3 that they where going to looks on peoples fileshare and find great maps. wtf. Anyway, all the maps on there are bungies maps that they made.
I think youre right aswell bungie favourites only have good maps in them maybe a thrid of the time and the rest of them just suck outright. they should put more of the forge hub maps on because they are some of the best ones i can find anywhere.
the only maps i've gotten from bng favs that i enjoy are the rocket race's (and those aren't really 'forged' maps... just new waypoints set...) and the storm the beach map... thats it, thats when i started losing hope about forging... then one glorious day i randomly got matched up with AZN and heard him brag about his 23059723509273509275 custom games... then was turned on to this great site... all hail those with great tastes...
Yeah I can understand why you might think this. But however other maps should be recommended. Can I has Bungie favorites?
Not exactly about Bungie Favourites, but I was pretty disappointed with Bungie's efforts when it came to the Halloween infection playlist.
Oh, I thought they where good. I'm glad that they made effort at all. They should of had a christmas playlist.
Seven Seas and Rocket Race were up pretty much from the beginning, and I thought they were a cool example of how you could create some innovative gametypes out of forge. Then they just got pretty slack on keeping the favorites updated with popular custom maps. Every now and then they put up 1 or 2 from the community, or 1 or 2 from an employee or a humpday. But I'm still hoping they put more effort in if they actually do the forged-map-matchmaking thing, and that will make up for it. Besides, the lack of good variety of maps on Bungie favorites has probably led many a folk to go looking for a place to find them, bringing them here. On a sidenote, I also think people take getting into Bungie Favorites way too seriously.

They were. And they suck. The maps on Bungie Favs are very low in quality, with a seeming lack of creativity and the ability to do things the creators didn't intend for you to be able to do.
I got the Heroic map pack canvas from bungie favourites, Anvil, and one of my favourites: Jaws/Shark. But You are indeed right that Bungie probably could keep enother eye out for new and creative maps and game types. PS I'm new to Forge Hub but love forging, and I'm already loving this website. They may just have been off for christmas ... and things will get better once they get back to work...
