With the first DBL EXP weekend on my new Grifball Court drawing to a close, i thought i would share some of my other Grifball Courts. All of which were crafted with the same care and dedication as the original. I will be posting them here over the next few days since posting them at B.net is futile at best. With this post you get 2 maps for the price of one. Presenting: Frozen Grifballs on Avalanche NOKYARD's slideshow on Flickr The playing field is narrower, but almost exactly the same volume as the original Foundry Court. The Great Wall of Church Named for Pvt. Leonard L. Church, not for the building where God plays Bingo. The Backstop Yes the double box is a necessary item, and the receiver nodes are only decorative on this version. (see below) Decorative meets functional. Reverse Angle Over 20 items were merged with the map geometry, including 5 double boxes skewered by a single tree. Presenting: Someday Night Grifball on Avalanche Players start in the Starting Pen. Cameraman and commentator go here ... ... which leads to the Press Box. View from the Press Box with custom power-up activated. View of Attackers Goal. View from inside Attackers Goal. Above the Bomb Plant. Unobstructed 360º view from inside the double box. Taking a radical new approach to the way Grifball Courts are constructed was a big risk i took with this map. Not wanting to hide the beauty that was Avalanche behind a pile of boxes i decided to open up the field so players could feel a new freedom not found in other courts. Inspiration was heavily drawn from early childhood memories of playing Pond Hockey, where there were no boards, painted lines, grandstands and the goals were two garbage cans. The main wall was added to the central structure using only similar building materials to create an extremely majestic centerpiece which only adds to the beauty of the surroundings. The map was originally a proposal for an alternative court for off-season, grudge matches to be broadcast live on Justin.tv and has been fully set-up to incorporate a cameraman and commentator with three viewing angles; above center court and one above each goal. This was accomplished using a technique only available on Avalanche and Blackout where you place a teleporter inside a double box and are then able to stand inside with a completely unobstructed view (see Slide Show). I found this the day after Avalanche was released and did not think it was such a big deal until i tried to do it on Last Resort. By the time i realized this and came here to show you guys, there had already been a post about it. I wish that at the time i had found the method for 'painting' double boxes as i would have made the wall extensions a single colour. It is way too late to go back and fix that so i replaced only the first columns so there is a Red side and a Blue side to match the goals. (you have to see the map to get what i mean) This court was designed for players who are serious about playing and having fun, with no intention of being idiots and leaving the play area. (People who do this should restrict themselves to the Foundry Court). The new playing field also offers new strategies not available on any other map, such as; setting up plays from behind the backstop, or using a strategic dive off the cliff to instantly reset the bomb as a method to pass the ball up-field when being chased down behind your own goal. There are several other new strategies you will find as you play. EDIT: The game variant has been changed to the low-gravity version. This allows for spectacular launches which suit the high ceiling and long court. Grif's speed has been reduced to match the other players to prevent the bomb carrier from running away from the playing field, a chasing defender can hammer-jump and easily catch him. Regular Grifball: Frozen Grifballs - 4V4, SNGB elements removed for normal play. Low Gravity Grifball - This map plays very well with the Low G(rif)ball version of the game. Someday Night Grifball: SNGB Avalanche - Used for Someday Night Grifball 4v4 + cameraman and commentator. SNGB ~ Grifball - Gametype activates Custom Powerups for the cameraman and commentator. cheers nokyard
Looks beautiful but it looks like a person could take the ball and run away to the other side of the map. I will download to see how it plays
nice idea i can see where you are going with it....it looks really fun. you should make the gameplay simplier.... 4.5/5 gud job
we found that people would do this in testing, thinking that they could run through the center and finding that it was blocked when we played with actual Grifball teams it was quite different - although some were confused for the first few rounds as they did not know the layout (they quickly caught on) the games eventually became quite competitive on one round we thought one of the players was getting goofy by running around in the area behind the goal, dodging the entire other team - until he jumped off the cliff to reset the bomb where is teammate was waiting to pick it up for an easy score almost perfect i intentionally left in one small flaw (lower left) because some of my friends think i am a little OCD when i forge - so i left in a few flaws - my motto is "if you are able to make something perfect with a little more time and effort, why not make it perfect?" - it is a principal i hold high in everything i do, but it is definitely not an obsession
