What are the aspects of a puzzle map? Is a map that is very frustrating to complete a puzzle map if the player only needs basic skills to complete the room?
Well i have created 2 (now 3) puzzle maps and i can tell you that a puzzle map need to first be a: Puzzle. Now a puzzle is something you solve. Normally it's "How do i get out of this room" where they try to solve the puzzle of getting out of the room. Secondly a puzzle must require some skill to complete. At some point in my puzzles i try to incorporate a skilled challenge such as jumping from point to point. Third, isn't really essential. I use trickery. I usually put a teleporter in a crack so you can see it. Usually people think they need to go to the teleporter, when they actually have to do something completley different. To me, that's what a puzzle map needs.
I agree with zoltan but i will add to it. 1. Try some originality. I recently made one called challange and Every room has something original to it. 2. Make sure it is difficult to get through even if you know how to. It takes me 15 min to get through mine and it only has eight rooms.
