New dashboard, new avatars, new Xbox LIVE by Steve Wysowski July 14th 2008 1:11 PM CDT It's official: the major Xbox LIVE Update we've all been wondering about is here. A full social networking feature, like facebook, but on your 360 has been announced at E3. A new dashboard, Mii-like avatar system, and many more addition are all apart of this planned revamp of Xbox LIVE. You can change your Mii, I mean.. "Avatar"s clothes, look, style, and basically (as I've stated before): it's a Nintendo Mii for the 360. They are bit more detailed then Nintendo's coutnerpart, but not nearly as much as Sony's avatars. The new dashboard looks absolutely shocking and drastically different. It's completely chagned, and more similar to the PS3 and Wii then anything Xbox 360. It's less complicated, it's simplified, and it's much more suited for the casual gamer. click here to read more...source site Download Video Preview Right Click and Save As...
This is gonna get a while to get used to. When did they ipload the update normally you get a message saying xboxlive will be offline from 10 to 12 on saturday the billionith of march.
This was a video at E3... Showing features about products that will soon be available... Not what is currently available. -heavy sigh- Children these days...
Heh, looks like it's made to entertain little kids since they can't afford to buy games. Is this a mandatory update or can I keep using the original dashboard?
It will probably be mandatory but what about our dashboard themes will they carry over to this new format.... they better.
Yes once you get this update you can not revert back to the current dashboard. Although the new Guide is somewhat like the current styled dashboard. Instead of the side blade we get when we press the guide button we see a blade like system in the center of the screen.
I'm really, really gonna miss the Dashboard. This looks cool, but not nearly as good as the Dashboard. I think they're making a huge mistake
No way this looks much better. It's cleaner and easy to get around. I hate the current dashboard. When you have 150+ downloaded games and 150+ downloaded videos from the marketplace the dashboard likes to take a while to load. It gets stuck sometimes and lags around a lot! This new dashboard fixes those problems while bringing an easier to navigate dash while maintaining a nice clean look. The current dashboard looks like the toy you give a 5 year old from a $5 shop...
The avatar thing sucks. If I wanted a Wii, I'd go buy one. It's beyond stupid and just reeks of "Oh look, a bandwagon! Let's jump aboard!" The Netflix integration will ****ing rule, though.
Bandwagons are fun, and who cares? It's a little person and not a picture. It's called the transition from 2D to 3D, I believe some people call that progress.
Yes, but why do we need to copy the PS3 and the Wii, when we already had a perfect dashboard system, and a much better Gamer Picture system. I don't want a frikin' Mii! I want the good old stuff... I just don't understand why they had to make this ''change''.
They're starting to make a move on the wii market. They want a wider base of users so they can make more money. The 360 just dropped in price to $300 and now the xbox live update. To me, this move was fairly obvious.
*Cough cough* copying wii *cough cough* I mean i can't wait! For the 360s originality to go away. 1. Price of 360s have droped to wii price. 2. Even Hardrives have droped. 3. TABBED dashboard? like wii? 4. flip MII upside down you get WII
im sorry, but that looks freaking lame. It looks like it was designed for a 12 year old. Im 22 years old, i dont want a virtual cartoon of me guiding me through scrolling windows. this is a mistake to me. yeah i heard your opinion on how you like it already, i dont. agree to disagree.
I agree... I really enjoy my current gamer pic (if your my friend, I have the xbox cam). I don't want to have a Mii... I already made a bunch of those throughout the Wii system. I like the new dashboard look though, but I agree with TSB, I don't want a virtual cartoon guiding me, unless it was Sheila, that'd be awesome =P
wait a second... why the hell do we need internet browsing? I have a ****ing computer right in front of me, I don't need to use my ****ing system to browse the internet. When sony introduced web browsing the the Playstation community I laughed, because they have basically given the gamers absolute hell... No one wants ads on their system, and thats what sony gave them. If I wanted an internet browser that played games, I'd just get a really good gaming PC I wouldn't want to have internet browsing whatsoever.
I'm not particularly bothers, as long as it doesn't affect my game playing, I don't really care, it makes no major difference to me as the only thing I really use the dashboard for, is downloading stuff, and pressing "play game". The screen should be better as it looks like it loads faster. As long as I can still invite people to games and invite them to private chat, and send messages while still in a game, it wont really affect me that much.
