A couple of MLG guys from the xbox.com forums asked me to make an MLG map for them. They told me to think outside of the box and make it unique.

I started working on it and I was wondering. Is it a bad idea to make an asymetric map?

Assymetric maps are always hard to make just due to balancing issues. And when it comes to MLG balancing becomes a lot more crucial and harder to do because of the limits. You have to have a counter to everything. With all this said, making assymetric maps are very rewarding and probably has some of the best gameplay.

Good luck on this, you definitely will need it.

Yeah, with asymetric maps, you're walking a fine line. I mean, one bad decision can make the whole map lop-sided. You want to make sure you give attention to every area of the map to make it support gameplay well (which is much easier if you can just duplicate the same thing twice.)
