In a forge level I am developing (still in the paper and pen stage right now) I need a way to have the first floor of a building unaccessable at the beginning of the match, then 30 seconds in become available. I'm familier with timed events, but seeing as you can't delete something part way in, I need some creative advise. What would be the best way of making something at floor level inaccesable at the beginning, but accessable 30 second later. For a second floor you can just spawn a ramp or staircase, but this will require a little more creativity, which I unfortunately lack. So I guess the question is: What is the best way to make a floor level building inaccessable at the start of a round and accessable 30 seconds in? Thanks in advance for your help! Timothy Sassone
download porcelin pony. it is one of coolants rusty eagles maps. he has a switch that i am incorperating in my new map. im talkin about how he makes the toilet flush
Yeah, I reccomend downloading porcelain pony so you can get a good view of this masterpiece. But here in a nutshell, I will try to explain what he did, incase you can't download anything right away. What he did in porcelain pony was this: He had a garbage can set between two fences, then at 30 seconds in, two grav lifts spawn, one on each side of the fences, and aimed slightly up and at the garbage can. The have to be very even, or you may have a problem with the garbage can getting stuck. He had a top on his, so if the grav lifts were destroyed, the can falls back down, but you could have it without a top, and just let the grav lifts throw the can out of the way completely.
Absolutely the way to go. You don't even need the switch part of it, if you for sure don't want someone to access another level for a certain time limit. The switch is only needed if you want to give the player the option of opening the door before the opening mechanism (grav lifts) spawn.
I was going to suggest the same exact thing, but these guys beat me to it. The grav-lift spawn works very well, and as long as you can keep your grav-lift out of people's way thats the way to go.
to make it pretty simple you could make a second floor with a hole in the floor, 30 seconds in have a grav lift that respawns instantly (to keep people from destroying it) spawn under the hole... if your worried about grenade jumpers just set a few pallets on top of the hole, easy to build, works well, i'd go for it.
allign some crates or other movable objects of you choice as the door. Place grav-lifts under or slightly above(use weapon holders) and set them to respawn at 30 seconds into the game. The crates will lift and you have yourself a door. OR: you could look at this, a sliding door, too hard to describe in one post: Slide Door
Shaft where dumpsters spawn in, blocking doorway, grav lift spawns 30 secs in to open it up, hey presto.
On one of my zombie maps, I made a pretty simple switch like this, just with dumpsters. Mine was simpler, because it put the zombies in an upside-down open double box sealed off at both ends with dumpsters. At 20 seconds, a mancannon and grav-lift spawned to throw away the dumpsters. It also threw the zombies out. Really, though, just a dumpster blocking the entrance that gets thrown away works perfectly fine.
