Debate Ridiculous Lawsuits

    What do you guys think?

Should people have the right to sue (and in most cases, win the case) others for ridiculous reasons?

These following examples are real, not made up.

Somebody can sue you for breaking into your house, and breaking their bone(s) for falling or another reason; and win the case.

People sue companies or restaurants for getting burnt by their coffee.

Some people have sued McDonalds for eating their food and becoming obese.

Now, these are just three examples of the worse I can think of.

First of all, duh coffee is going to burn you if you drop it on you!

You notice the three examples I listed are based on the people who can file a lawsuit for these incidents. totally brought it on themselves.

What I mean is, the person who broke their bone from breaking into your home is totally his or her fault!

The person who burnt his self with the coffee should know that coffee is extremely hot. Come on, think people!

And the person who is fat because they eat fast food all the time; what the Hell?

Case and point; people should not have the right to file lawsuits for reasons they brought upon themselves.

What in Blue Hell is America turning into?

This stuff makes me sick and is the reason why I think America is sick sometimes.

Post your guys' thoughts and make sure you turn off your signatures.

I once saw a lawsuit for a missing camera. The plaintiff man wanted $200 to replace the damn thing. What was odd about the case was, the plaintiff GAVE the camera to his friend. later, he wanted it back. The Defendant refused and hell broke loose. Over a camera. I my own opinion, I don't think it has any sort of moral value behind those small cases.

Typical American greed, however there is a law thing I'm not totally familiar and I don't feel like finding sources (I just read about it in the paper) it's called "Rule 10" or something, and it basically states that cases can be dismissed if they are ridiculous. Which is good, but then you bring back the America element, and then it becomes legitimate to be burnt by HOT coffee. iy yi yi. i'm moving to Canada.

A Judge should have the ability to dismiss a case on the grounds of ridiculousness.
If I were the judge, I'd completely turn it around on them.
"This coffee burned me" "Okay, you are never to drink coffee again"
"McDonalds made me fat" "if you step foot in a McDonalds restaurant, you will be fined a maximum of $2000"
"I broke my leg when kicking down their locked door" "Well your a **** head"

THat's just completely retarded, especially the breaking and entering one.
If someone breaks in, you haev to wait until they attack you before you can do anything to them.

    TRUE STORY

Someone sued Winnebago (and won) for the following reason:

They were driving on the highway and put the camper on Cruise Control, then GOT UP FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT, and went into the back to make a sandwich. When the Winnebago crashed, this ridiculously stupid person filed a lawsuit against Winnebago, on the grounds that it did not say in the owner's manual that you could not get out of the driver's seat after you set it on Cruise Control.

    WHAT THE F*CK, PEOPLE!!??

Some people don't have a microwave!
    Is it Americans...or just humans....

Sometimes in America, anyone will do anything to get money.

People can be selfish swine pigs here in the land of the free; it's sad.

And I am not going to police you guys about turning off your signatures, but can you please turn em off? Thanks.

Anyways, lemme tell give yall another example of filing a lawsuit.

When I was born, I had an egghead, and my parents could have sued the doctor but didn't because we have our dignity.

I believe if that someone files a lawsuit for a ridiculous reason, then that makes them look like a no-brained individual with no dignity.

I disagree. You are stereotyping Americans.

Also, this "debate" seems more like a rant than a debate.

People of any culture will take advantage of a situation given the right circumstances. America just happens to have a court system that can sometimes be manipulated for personal gain.

    Ranting you say?

I'm not really ranting about it, I just think this is wrong.

I really do want the community of Forge Hub's opinion on this.

Especially the ones outside of America.

I should of stated that in my opening post, sorry Furious D.

I edited my statements that were stereotyping Americans, and changed the title.

Nothing needed to be said beyond what DTL said. More than one person in this thread said "Americans" or "In America" like this type of stuff only happens here. Greed exists at every corner of the world,we just have a more civilized approach. It could be whoever has a gun rather than a stick like it is in many other places in the world.

Americans are extremely easy to stereotype, and the majority of us ****ing suck and are morons.

Yes, this is more of a rant than a debate.

First, you may think that the reasons are "ridiculous" but the plaintiffs probably do not. People should be able to bring lawsuits against other people when there are personal injuries involved. Whether or not those lawsuits are valid is up to the courts to decide.

Second, I highly doubt that they win in most cases. But the "ridiculous" lawsuits that fail never get media attention, so we never hear about it. We only hear about the outrageous lawsuits that win.

Third, any judicial system is going to have inconsistencies and flaws. We do the best we can.

So yes, people should have the right to sue. How's that for a debate?

Dismissing cases for ridiculessness is an excellent idea. No, people shouldn't sue for petty issues. Also, I think that lawyers shouldn't exist. You just say what happened yourself, and that's all. Lawyers are paid to defend someone, not tell the truth.

edit: Crap, sorry about the signature...

Its the same in the UK , the law system is going down the pan with a new obsession over minor issues of racism the court is going along with this. Nowadays ,If you say anything small over rascism the courts will rape you into giving compensation.
