multiplayer is great but i like a good story so whats the best single player game you have played.
I think bioshock i the best for those of you that havent played stop reading this and go download right now it is a first person shooter set in a decaying underwater city whose inhabitants have gone crazy and spliced there genes to give them superpowers{this description doesnt do it justice go play it}The story graphics and gameplay are original and yet familiar the game also has multiple endings and a rpg style character customization it is amazing

    but what do you think?

EDIT-when i said download bioshock i mean the demo from live marketplace

Bioshock by far, one of the best single player games I've ever played. That game totally ****s with your head.

I never finished Bioshock, I got up to one bit, where I could find 1 ****ing bottle of water and I gave up with it/ so I havent played it quite some time. But I do own Bioshock, so I can play it whenever I want.
A couple of the best single player games, IMO Assassin's Creed, one of the best, unfortuneatelt it has terrible replay value. Devil May Cry 4 is really good as well.

Oh yeah, the Darkness is a ****ing Awesome game too. I remember it was like the only game I played for about a month.

    IMO, definately Orange Box: Half-Life 2, HL2: Ep. 1, HL2: Ep. 2.
As a great story, longer then most other single player games on 360 and the best replay value of any single player on the 360.

Assassin's Creed would have to posses the greatest story, however, the replay value of this game ways it down a bit.

Bioshock is a good single player game.

Assassin's Creed is too, but as SLY said, there is hardly any replay value.

Gears of War has a good story but the first game is too short and leaves you with a lot of questions. But with 2 coming out, it may answer some questions.

Those are my selections for good story.

Yea I was gonna immediately say Assassin's Creed, but its that damn replay value. Although I sometimes go back just to play around, like getting hundreds of stealth kills and things.

By single player do you mean without any LIVE options, because otherwise I'd suggest GTA IV. My favorite current game besides CaC3. GTA is so dam fun and has a high replay value, and the online play is good too.

no i mean judging the game on the single player only it can have a multlplayer but this cannot affect your opinion

i have played assains creed liked it but traded it in i love the orange box portal alone is amazing i own the darkness but have never played it and gta4 is the best non firstperson game on 360 in my opinion

Ok, still, GTA IV's single player campaign is great still. And theres so much to do when you don't like doing missions, though I'd wait til after the story for those extras to make sure you get teh Liberty City Minute achievement for beating the game in 30 or less hours.

i think gta race makes the multiplayer{slightly off topic sorry}my latest map dont look down is a gta race halo style but as a single player is brilliant the friend thing is clever because it almost forces you to exsplore the city the soundtrack is very good the way the cars handle is much better the shoot outs are as good as heat and the missons are varied and interresting i cant wait to start it again

    OMFG YES.

I was just walking (don't remember where) and I saw a shadow of someone stabbing a someone else...then a voice was like "Get out of my garden..." so I ran and hid in a corner and the lights flickered off. Later they came back on so I started slowly walking away. When I turned my back I heard a whisper, "Get out of my gardenn..." I turned back around and WHAT TEH **** A SPLICER! It scared the **** out of me...

But yeah, that game is scary and fun...the storyline is great!

If you're looking for a game thats truly single player, and nothing else, than you should look at Bioshock first, and Assassins Creed second. Bioshock will forever change how you think about linear gaming. (It did for me) The storyline is fantastic, the characters are rich and the gameplay is exquisite. Assassin's Creed, while it becomes extremely repetitive very fast, took the sandbox idea and blew it out of the water. The freeworld roaming is awesome, and the ability to interact with basically everything is something that everyone should experience.
If you're looking for a game with a big single player component, but that can still do multiplayer, you're looking at the Orange Box (half life, episodes 1 + 2, portal, team fortress 2), and GTA 4. I probably don't need to talk about GTA 4, because you live under a rock if you don't know about it. As for the Orange Box, the Half Life story is awesome, and the half life series defined gaming for generations to come. It's puzzle based linear story is intriguing and can be downright scary. Portal, if you haven't heard, is just so incredible that it's worth the $60 itself IMO. Team Fortress 2 is a great multiplayer experience because of two things. 1) Balance, no class is inherently better than another, only with practice and teamwork can you really win. 2) I find that the people who play Orange Box aren't idiotic 12 year olds screaming or singing into their mic. Orange Box is played, for the most part, by an older crowd, so you'll find more mature gameplay and less rambunctious team killing f***tards. Hope that helps.

Definatly Bioshock, I played it for months on the computer and now I'm playing pretty much non stop on the xbox 360. It is one of the best games I have ever played (next to the halo series).

Yep, Bioshock for me. I've never played a more immersive game than that (no underwater pun intended). With surround sound headphones, it's unbelievable. Best storyline of any game I've played.

For some reason I got bored with Assassin's Creed and never finished it. May have to one of these days...

Wow I'm surprised this hasn't been posted but, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It has one of the most fantastic single player experiences ever, yeah, try arguing with me about that, just try. Unless you aren't an RPG fan, then it would be pointless to argue with you.

The award has to go to either The Orange Box or Bioshock.

If you want a challenge, don't get Bishock. Sure it was good, but the fact that you COULDN'T die made the game (to me) a lot less stressful. Everything about it was fun, but not being able to die... Well usually thats one of the most important parts of a videogame. Also, I know the argument that people will make: "Well in other games you can continue, it's the same as that." I know, but it's more so the fact that you can appear next to where your dead body was and not be... punished for dieing is the only major problem I have with it. Anyways back on topic. I compiled a list:

Elder Scrolls Oblivion: Personally the best 1 player game ever. Huge story, endless playtime, and tons of other good stuff to boot. It also has some very useful downloads.

Bioshock: Yep, I've already been over this.

Mass Effect: Giant RPG. Lots of replay value and I'm amazed that no one said this game.

Condemned Series: Single player is scary as hell. If you like horror games that don't suck, grab both the first and the second. (IMO, this is scarier than Bioshock.)

Orange Box: Lots of different games and you get portal. Nothings better than that sweet, moist, tasty cake.

Assassin's Creed: Good till you beat it. Although it's still got a really good story.

Ninja Gaiden 2: Another personal favorite. If you want a challenge that will kick your sorry ass back to ninja training school, get this game.

Guitar Hero/ Rock Band: Sure they're multi player, but if you like music and jammin it on a fake plastic Guitar, this is a great game.

GTA 4: What else is there to say?

There are others, but you just need to hit up the latest issue of Game Informer if you want to see all the good high ranking games. Have fun.
