    That's right, guns.

The question to debate is "Should citizens have the right to carry guns?" In my opinion, I think we should have the right to protect ourselves if anything happens. Of course, this debate is highly...well...debatable because every point you make can be contradicted. Or can it? I want to see if anyone can make some very strong points on this and address the topic well.

Take this video for example. This man is protecting his neighbor's property- with a shotgun. Giant debate about this. Here's the video

    And, let the debating begin!

well the thing is murderers are on a even scale if everybody carry's a weapon
so although it is easier to obtain a weapon as a murderer you never know when you will get that one guy with an desert eagle now if we take away the 'right to bear arms' murderers will illegally purchase a weapon and go on one hell of a killing spree no civilian will stop him and we will have to rely on the police now although this doesn't sound too bad the police in some cases are slow to react and some lives could be saved if the civilians can carry guns of their own. Now also we will get a brand new thing for gangs to fight over every type of firearm 'weapon dealers' anyone? now already illegal weapons are sold on the black market but we make all of them illegal BIG flood of stuff for illegal trade. so you want an even playing field? or an one sided slaughter resulting in a lack of armed civilians. I personally choose the first one as the second is not good....at all. I would like to hear feedback and counter arguments so please post away-java *stares at metal baseball bat to right of self* EDIT: I killed your debate oh well it was fun for the one post it lasted

In the U.S. for 2001, there were 29,573 deaths from firearms, distributed as follows by mode of death: Suicide 16,869; Homicide 11,348; Accident 802; Legal Intervention 323; Undetermined 231.(CDC, 2004) This makes firearms injuries one of the top ten causes of death in the U.S. Althoug yes there are some deaths that are a result of homicide. The majority is actually just some emo kid that shot himself in the head. So if we get rid of guns, then there might be less of all of the above. But then again, more illegal weapon smuggling. In short, i dont know which I would choose.

well if the emo kid didn't use a firearm he would probably poison himself or some crap but still i see where your coming from if those emo kids are so depressed they kill themselves than they probably won't be very motivated to help out the world or get a job etc.

Everyone would need to first get fire arms training, but we would be a lot safer if everyone had a gun. People would be very hesitant to try to shoot up a school if everyone there would be shooting back. Shooting could only kill one victim or so, rather than high numbers possible when people can't defend themselves.

Absolutely yes. Do we have the right to free speech? thats from the same document including the right to bear arms. We should all have guns. think about this, if you were a criminal, would rob someone who is carring a 9mm? no.

In switzerland its compulsory to own a fully automatic weapon. All males are expected to undergo basic military training at the age of 20. Switzerland has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world.

A militiaman on his way home from mandatory shooting practice, taking care of an errand with his service weapon slung over his shoulder. This however requires a permit to do.

And look at the effect it has on gun crime

Im all for possession of firearms.

I think with the facts you provided matty is that people the majority of bladed weapon attacks are drunken yobs or just sober yobs who are too stupid to realise what they are doing because after all its only a knife I don't think the understand how serious a knife crime is compared to a gun crime which is why there is less of it. People know guns kill. But I don'k think some people realise that knives are equally as dangerous. Well thats the majority in London anyway from my experiences.

I just remembered the family guy quote.

But I think it's fair to be able to protect yourself, I mean, nobody deserves to die.

The only ban on guns I could agree with would be assault weapons. You don't need 11 M16's to protect yourself.

I know a guy who lives in that exact same neighborhood, and was at home when this took place. He did not see the two men be shot, but he heard the shots, and went outside to look at what happened. But for my argument, I say let us have 'em because sometimes we need to protect ourselves, and what better way than to do it with a gun? But this brings me to my next point; murderers and rapists and every other criminal that uses guns will be allowed to carry guns. I think we should put higher punishments on the criminals who misuse their weapons. Disagree with my argument if you must, but I think it is a valid point.

Increase the allowance of posession of firearms.

Increase the responsibility they require. Force firearms training on people in possession of a gun.

Increase the punishments of firearm relates crimes,

Exactly. It's not like we would have the same laws if citizens were allowed to carry weapons. But I don't think the government sees it that way

Keep the allowance of possession the same (now that I read that... what the heck do you mean increase possession? Possession of a gun is possession of a gun)

Increase the responsibility they require. Force firearms training on people in possession of a gun.

Increase the punishments of firearm relates crimes.

Haha. You could, if there was like 50 people trying to break into your house and there was 11 people at your house. But other than that, it's pretty ridiculous

I'm all for the right to bear arms. i live in El Paso, which is right on the border with Juarez, Mexico. The recent drug wars have contributed to the deaths of over 200 people this year in Juarez alone. the drug wars in mexico killed over 2,500 people in 2007. In Mexico it is illegal to carry firearms unless you are part of the army or police force. this by no means proves that legalizing firearms limits violence, but prohibiting them can have disaterous effects. by banning firearms you guarentee that the only people who carry them will be crimminals.
