Hey everyone, im new to forgehub in some aspects. ive been looking at the site for a couple months now, and forging for a long time. recently i decided to join the site to improve my forge skills and as a chance to share some maps with others. Ive been working on this map which im calling Howitzer (for now at least). Front view Another front view I know most of you are thinking "ugh another artillery map" but i think this one could actually provide not only some aesthetics but some great gameplay. Essentially this map still needs a lot of work the cannon is going to be the main feature, and gametype ideas are still being formulated. the main one ive been thinking of is a one bomb type scenario with the artillery cannon being disabled (temporarily) after a score. (more on that later). But bases have not been, but would be built for both attackers and defenders. Ive put about 7-8 hours into intensely make sure everything is symmetrical, interlocked, and functional with the cannon. Ive run into some huge dilemmas and done the best i can to preserve the original idea, (which included manual firing). The biggest problems ive had so far is with the feeding system, and the ammo used to fire the cannon. Ammo Fusion coils are the definite stick out however they are highly unreliable when fed into the cannon 80% of the time take enough damage to explode while in the air or inside the cannon. This makes little sense because when fired the fusion coils usually take a straight path and do not collide with the walls of the cannon. this of course made highly frustrated. Inside of cannon (8 mancannons evenly aligned) As a last resort i tried changing the ammo to power cores, which have been confusing me. after firing them out of the cannon some of them explode after contact with the ground (after being fired) but a majority dont. I know that power cores are supposed to only explode after receiving damage by a weapon of some sorts but the fact that some of them worked as ammo for the cannon makes me wonder if i could use them and if theres something i dont know about them Feeding system Back of cannon showing slide into cannon Top of the back showing hole where ammo is fed into To feed the ammo into the cannon someone would just simply push the ammo into the hole and the grav lift below will push it until it is fired. This has been the most reliable way ive found to fire power cores into a consistent area. It does not work well with fusion coils. However if i was able to change the feeding system so that fusion coils could be used that would be the best. Ive tried ideas like switches and just regular ramps and none have worked. The end results, or what i have so far is a cannon that is able to fire power cores (about) 3X what one man cannon can do. I think the idea and all the work ive but behind it is good enough to keep this project alive but the way it is now is not enough to build an entire map around. So id really appreciate any ideas to help make this work. or if i should scrap this and work on other things
yeah, spawning the coils inside the cannon makes it work most of the time, but i was really hoping to make the cannon manually fired. if theres no way i can make it work than ill prolly end up doing like you said.
