For a while now, I've wondered what is it about some maps that I like. For instance, I've seen some very creative maps that range from the famous 'Colosus Engaged' to funny maps like bowling alleys and even a Wendy's. So I'm interested in seeing what the masters of Forge have to say. (That would be most of you here on ForgeHub.) Me personally, I am interested in a map if it has some good features to it, and has some replayability to it. I am making a map on Standoff right now, and it's by far my best map I've made so far simply because of all the things I have learned on ForgeHub. Even if it does not have interlocking, it's still pretty creative. (Not finished, so don't ask to see it.) So what do you guys think? What makes a "good map"?
Simply originality, I love seeing new and original ideas...originality (imho) keeps forging worth while...whether or not that means a new feature/technique or a new layout/design in a map...originality reigns supreme...
I agree, originality has a lot to do with enjoying new maps. But then again, I've played infection map after infection map, with the same basic idea of "Have one spot loaded with a bunch of weapons, and survive for as long as possible". But even those don't seem to get boring becasue something about them appeals to me...
original, clean, goodgame play and gametypes set up effectively, many ways around, and lasty something that just get me are aesthetics in maps. spawns starting points, balence... everything. lol id say the most important is cleanness tho, seeing as if its not clean it willmost like lt not have good gameplay... and balance in weapons and vehicles
they're right such as the new featured maps, the rock climbing tower was very very original, just try to think of something that noone else has.
It must be fun, replayable, themed great ascletics and origonality. I base my maps off those expectations. An example of this would be my map SpaceAge. The link is in my signature below.
Something that avoids the foundry arena style. No empty spaces, I hate empty spaces, and shield doors unless used creativley. I also hate inferno grenades and weapon holders holding stuff, unless it's a sword. That's just my opinion though
