We have new internet, and its supposed to be fairly good i guess. I'm trying to just see if i can get online fro my computer and the xbox at the same time. I have them both connected, and when im online through the computer and try signing on to xbox, it says my IP address failed. but the numbers are the exact same as on the computer. So that confuses me and im not sure if its just because i cant be on at the same time (which im sure i can, even if one kicks me off, i should be able to get on) or if something is wrong via wiring. any suggestions?
What plan/where did you get your internet from? Its probably you don't have enough bandwidth, xbl takes up about 2-3 times more than being on the computer, you have to have a pretty strong connection to do that. But if your just saying you just can't sign in and its not a matter of hosting a game or whatever, then you must have very minimal bandwidth.
I have charter. It said to have 10mbps when we got it...but i have a feeling its much lower :/ cause if it is, im gunna give them a call cause i want what im paying for. which brings me to another point. how do i check my internet speed?
10 mbps is very small. Thats hardly enough to support two people on the internet at the same time let alone xbl. I'm surprised it will hold xbl at all actually. you can test your internet speed right here: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test it sounds to me like your getting screwed over. I'd either switch providers and or have a nice long phone call with your current company. good luck.
Dont switch my internetz Woman! unless you find one thats about the same price and faster, dont switch it. I dont wanna go from bad to worse, im happy with what i got rigt now thankyouverymuch. P.s. I love you :]
Well I was just telling her what to do if she wnated internet that would host xbl + beign on te computer at th e same time.
fine fine. but its your money not mine. but its also not like we have much of a choice. there's only like 3 service providers in our area and this was the cheapest one :/
First of all, your network will only run your PC and your xbox simultaneously if they have different IPs, what's your network setup? wireless? direct router? how many ports? Let me know what your working with and i'll see what's up.
at&t is $45 for 6 mbps. thats the next one i think. we're paying $25 for 10 mbps. and ty, i really dont know. il have edgar tell you that stuff cause im clueless
Well, from what I can tell, I think your connecting through a standard cable modem. My suggestion would be to go buy a good router and get a home network set up, it's not very expensive and can save a ton of headaches. I'm actually pretty certain the root of your issue is the PC and XBOX trying to use the same IP address which is a no can do. I'll keep an eye on this thread and hopefully I can help with more info, networking is partly my inherited trade
well you can either set your IP on your xbox to a defined one or make it static, I have mine set to a defined one so I can always keep XBL ports open.
Ok, so you have to unplug your PC to connect the xbox directly to the modem? if That's the case you're going to need a router. You can either go wireless (but then you'd have to get an adapter for your 360- which I have a spare lol) or you can get a wired router. Then you can set up your 360's settings to be static and you can easily use both peripherals at once. LEt me know what you decide and if you want my wireless adapter.
If you get a MiMo (More in More out) router, you can have any type of connection and it will get stronger through use of the router which can help increase bandwidth. Which is probably your problem.
