I ummed and erred about whether this was more appropriate in Competitive or Casual, but decided that the balanced nature of the weapon placements and the fact that this game doesn't require honour rules made it more appropriate for competitive.

Of course, an alternative honour rule could well be to ban the VIP from using the Banshee's weapons.

So, this is the second map that I've showcased here. In terms of actual forging, very little was done to the Standoff canvas except to place weapons and spawns. The main focus on this game was experimenting with gametypes, something I had not attempted before. I hope you like.

    Air Race

Overview: Set on Standoff, both teams spawn on either side of the valley. Only the VIP has the ability to drive vehicles and for them, a banshee spawns on opposite silos which can be reached quickly using the mancannons. The VIP must use their banshee to reach the floating goal points while the rest of the team tries to kill their opponent's VIP. Teams will also want to dominate their opponent's ground forces, and a variety of infantry killing goodness is included for this purpose.

    Points of interest:

The banshees spawn on opposite sides of the map. The banshees can be reached quickly by using the mancannons at each base. A run-time minimum of two will ensure that new banshees will appear quickly so that no team will be without for long.

Each base also has a lot of explosive barrels and propane tanks to make the most strategic place also the most dangerous. Shield doors on the base provide a safe haven for the VIP until the new banshee spawns. Also, try opening the rear entrance.

    Weapons:

The map has a large array of anti-vehicle weaponry, the most useful of which is five Spartan Lasers (one in the centre, one above the rear of each base and one hidden inside each base). The exposed lasers will respawn at 90 seconds while the hidden lasers will respawn faster, however exposing the hidden lasers will also make that laser available to the opposing team. There are also four rocket launchers, four missile pods, four plasma pistols and four shield drainers. Additionally, each base has three sniper weapons (two human and one alien), a shotgun, battle rifles, and an array of alien anti-infantry weapons and grenades in front of the bases.

    Game types:

In Red Bull, the VIP scores two points for reaching the random floating goal points. It won't be easy though, as each team also scores points for using the variety of anti-vehicular weaponry to kill the enemy VIP. The winner is the first team to reach 50 points.

    6-16 players, suitable for:

Overview. As you can see, the map itself isn't drastically changed and the VIP will need to employ all their piloting skills to avoid the inevitable hail of AA fire.

One of the floating goal points which the VIP must reach in their Banshees. Reaching the goals will score 2 points.

At the outside rear of each base you'll find one of two Beam Rifles and one of five Spartan Lasers.

On top of each base is a Sniper Rifle, Brute Shot, Battle Rifle and Assault Rifle.

Mancannons atop each base will launch VIPs to the missile silos where the Banshee will respawn. There is also one of four Rocket Launchers here, and grenades. The Plasma Cannon will not spawn at the beginning of the game but will appear within a minute.

Each base has one of four Missile Pods in the back passageway.

Something special hides in the closed entrance, but opening this will also allow the enemy a chance to steal it so choose wisely!

In front of each base are a variety of Covenant anti-infantry weapons, plus Battle Rifles.

The fifth Spartan Laser, control of which may be pivotal (giving a 3-2 Laser advantage to the team which holds it. This Laser will take longer to respawn once used.

The extra Rocket Launcher and Missile Pods spawn near the Banshees, but will take a long time to respawn once used.

Another Sniper Rifle and an Energy Drain are at the open rear entrance to each base.

    Another quality map description.

The first thing that I noticed is that there are no pictures from gameplay. I'd imagine that a game like this would have banshees soaring, lasers firing, rockets flying, and other mayhem which is all great to showcase the intensity of this game. Seeing no such pictures leads me to believe that this has not been tested yet.

The game sounds like fun, but games like this can get unbalanced quickly. For example, there are 5 lasers and 8 missile pods on the map. I'm skeptical that a VIP can even get to a goal area. If I were playing this as the VIP, I wouldn't risk my neck trying to get the goals. I'd grab a laser and try and kill the enemy VIP. If, after testing, you find that a lot of people think like I do, you can boost the goal points to 3 or 4 to make the reward outweigh the risk.

I'm interested to know if you tested, and if so, how things went.

Again, cheers for the feedback :)

It did get tested before I made the final tweaks (initially there were not so many AA weapons on the map and it basically turned into a Team Slayer/VIP variant), but you're right in that this map hasn't been tested in its final or pre-final state. Of the three maps that I've released so far, this one is still the most theoretical and prone to development in both game balancing and map design.

Something I want to include is floating objects for the VIP to use either as cover to swoop behind, or to get between to score the "goal reached" point (at which point I will up the points received for reaching the destinations).

The original version of this game was three rounds, first to 25 points. One round to 50 has so far played better, but the reason for the lack of actual in game shots so far is simple: My recent films is currently full of float and save short clips, and I didn't think quickly enough to save the gameplays when it was tested!

Actually there is also one trend I should mention in tests so far which is to do with party size.

Smaller games (say two teams of three) tend to be won by the VIPs reaching goal points, while larger teams (five plus) tend to be won by VIP kills. The feedback I've had from these games was usually that both types of victory were equally rewarding, both for the VIPs being skilled pilots and because the rest of the team got to shoot lots of big guns at a moving target!
