enclosed maps like the estate {foundry} are best. you have to use the area around you at all times.

ok cool....but another question like the estate map could you possibly have it that you're using a SWAT game variant but have it that you have to infiltrate an area similair to the real SWAT teams.... kickin in door and kick bad guy butt all over the place...because i mean Estate is an awesome map styll have a hard time playin on there because i just got the map and its a very complex map (5 stars) and i mean I wana to make a SWAT map with multiple levels but i dont want it to simply just be a slayer game i want it to be like an Assault or a sumthing where the game as well and the game play is startegic and requires skill to hoodl the area or get into the area to fulfill the objective your given

Thje only SWAT like gametypes that are widely played are slyer and CTF. I've never seen someone play SWAT Assault of KOTH.

The assult would make sense. The swat or bomb squad has
to plant a bomb in a terrorists base. Hmmmm, you should
experiment with your ideas young one...

SWAT in enclosed areas works well but SWAT in an open field with proper "line of sight" can work well. If your wide open battlefield features well designed firing arcs and cover points I don't see how it could fail as a SWAT map.

If you want more of an Assualt type of SWAT, I really don't think respawning and one shot kills would work. For an assualt gametype, I've always preferred ones that have a large penalty for dying but with people who are moderately hard to kill alone. That way, deaths generally only occur when one team makes a brilliant maneuver, or the other team makes a fatal mistake. SWAT isn't exactly like this, however.

I would change SWAT to have 30 second respawns, full shields, and around 50% shield recharging rate. Unless you want every game to be over generally quickly and have incredibly fast action, the normal SWAT gametype doesn't really fit with Assualt.

Is it still SWAT if you put shields on but with no recharge? I'm planning a hill game with no recharge but didn't know what call it.

That's not exactly SWAT. But I don't think anyone cares if you modify SWAT a little bit, and then name it something else to fit your custom made map.

I would suggest an enclosed map, maybe one on Construct would be good aswell if you provided lots of cover.

swat can all ways begin the foundation of good ideas. Most swat maps take place on enclosed places but can take place on outdoor places as well. It just depends on how much cover you give.

yeah i kno Foundry would be the best but i mean there are way too many maps made on there and i want to make a very fun and original SWAT map that isnt played on the Foundry becuase what works on there may not work on another map per se and then i would be at serious road block...so i mean i understand wher you coming from becuase Foundry has the wall and the ceiling and you have a lot of items to use for cover and platforms but i mean i want to doing something different something unique so that way i could be in the running for the year's best (kinda getting a little ahead of myself) but yeah....any suggestions for a good map to try and make a SWAT variant on??

Maybe it would help to come up with the gametype first then choose a map that may fit it well. I know you choose to do SWAT, but do you have the specific player settings decided yet? For a map I've been toying with, I decided on game settings then picked a map and started building from there. It's going ok but it'll be hard for me to really test it out a whole lot atm.

Personally I don't think the Pit would work well for SWAT. There are many lines of sight, different height levels for platforms, and long cover-less hallways. More times than not, you'll die from an enemy simply because he saw you first, not because you made a mistake.

    That's just my opinion though.

Adding cover to the Active Camo and Rocket Launcher hallways is stupid though. All the cover that is forgeable would take up so much of the hallway that it isn't useful for cover anymore.

I prefer playing :squirrel_rocking: on enclosed maps but it really is just a personal preference.
