yea..After my first screw up with the construct Race Map...I'm back and ready to kick ass with a new map that I have planned out on paper...I just gout the map pack a few days ago... And This map I am gonna make is CODENAMED ELEVATION. So anyway...back to Permanant Floating Platforms....I know we must use Weapon holders and make sure the objects we want to flot are on top the weapon holder based on the Forging 101 tutorial. But I got another question: How many weapon holders are necessary..Will one be enough?
From my experience, one won't work. Three is the minimum I've been able to use (like a tripod), but the platform could still flip off if you land on it funny. The only way I could think of where one weapon holder would work is if you floated five, with the fifth being in the center of the other four, placing your platform, and then placing any kind of teleporter node on top, again making sure its pretty well centered. You should then be able to delete your four corner weapon holders. Hope this helps.
My experience is that teleporter nodes work better because they are larger and physically hold the object in place better. But they cost more obviously. Whatever you use, just look at it like it's a real object that you're trying to physically hold in place. The physics are pretty realistic, so if you have an object floating in space that you really don't want to move in any direction, it should have a force acting against it from several directions at once.
Oh no >.< I've made a map called Elevation that I'm gonna post here on this forum later on tonight . What a clash... But back on topic, my experience is that it's best to use four weapon holders, one in each corner of the rectangular object you want to float.
I think that 1 receiver node would definately be cheaper than 5 weapon holders, the easiest way to float objects is with receiver nodes, try using weapon holders on the top for stability.
Not really, it's more like if you balanced a book on your palm and then pushed one finger down on top of it. It is a force acting against the book, which pushes against your open hand, which keeps it better balanced.
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I didn't say keep all five, just for the initial placement. We're on the same page, just the upside-down versions of each other. But my explanation sounded more convoluted...
Oh god..I may need another way to this now...as I know there are about only 8 weapon holders(?) and I need to use the teleporters for other purposes.....Oh crap...is one enough to balance it after I place it on top?
In my experience, one on the bottom and one on top has always been enough to hold nearly everything, although more is better.
one on bottom will hold as long as noone hits it or blows it up. but with only one odds are good that it will fall
