Like rain, snow, hail, fog, and the like. Imagine this. You're sneaking into your opponents base for whatever reason. The rain is falling hard on the concrete walls all around you. It's pitch black from the thick cover of clouds overhead. Suddenly, the sky lights up for an instance as lightening strikes; enough time for you to see the newly spawned Elite in front of you. You wait for the thunder quietly. Seeing your chance, you take down the elite just as a crack of thunder booms over the battlefield. Your opponent lies dead, you you stand alive, hidden still in the shadows. Or this. You stand guarding a cavernous warehouse in the middle of a gorge. Snow falls in clumps off of the roof overhead, and the fridgid wind blows relentlessly outside. In the distance, a silent sound in the loud wind, a warthog engine roars and a scorpion crunches snow under its tracks. The first thing you see is the headlights of the warthog... And I lost interest.. But yeah you get the point. Weather = cool. It's really a shame Halo 3 didn't take as much advantage of it as it should have. Night maps, fog covered valleys, snowy tundras; they all would have made great additions to Halo 3's multiplayer and machinima scene. Lolz. I wanted to do a writing exercise. I'm a fruit.
It really can't. Not even really good computers can out put physics and graphics like what your talking about.
Sure, weather would be really interesting, but if it were as extreme as a thunderstorm, like your example, where the lighting randomly changes, I don't think it will be received very well at all. I definitely like the idea of having weather in maps. Snow/rain are simple, yet add greater depth to the geometry of a map. Same thing with night.
I've thought of this idea for a while, and I was sure it would come with Halo 3. Changing the time of day (night, day, sunrise, sunset, etc) would be pretty impressive for the new maps, and even better would be rain or snow. Though, I'm guessing it would be pretty tough to make all the textures and colors for every single setting. It'd be like making multiple maps for every map.
yeah weather engine would be awesome and everything but i feel that with that too many ppl would probably focus on the settin gof the atmosphere rather the map itself (if making a forged map) but on the other hand for machinma it would be a MAJOR addition to it...i mean snow falling on Standoff or Rain on Isolation would be awesome...but i mean the weather sounds cool but think about the major distraction it would be upon the forgers... weather = cool, but also = MAJOR distraction
A day/night changing map would be really cool, especially for CTF. Timing an assault on a base after it turns dark and running away with the flag would be really neat.. Also, I would really prefer if Halo 3 had realistic shadow physics. I tried to create a lasertag type map on Foundry, which would be preferably dark, with Plasma rifles or Spartan Lasers and all that good stuff, but simply blocking the window with a box doesn't block the light. In actuality, the light itself seems totally random. If you go download Arcadia, a map made in the sky off of Standoff, one of the double boxes in the middle is seemingly covered in shadow while the rest of the map is in the sun. What the hell? <_<
Weather, I think it'd just be annoying and distracting. But night time map? hell yes its about time halo got one. How about forgable flares like the red one on rats nest?
Complete darkness. A turret leaving you vunerable? A crouched guy sneaking up behind you in the darkness. Insta-assassination? How cool would that be?..... IT WOULD BE FABOLOUS!
I would love more lighting and weather effects, and more control over them either in forge or in gametype settings. Some rudimentary versions of both of these wouldn't be too hard to add. But since Halo 3's engine isn't set up for it, it probably can't be done now. It would greatly add to map customizability though. Imagine a map like Foundry, but set outdoors; and with the ability to set it to any time of day, and add snowfall or rainfall or fog if you want. It would be incredibly awesome, IMO.
The only "weather" I can remember in Halo MP was the Fog on backwash, and I think the fog worked alright for that kind of thing. However the weather effects you are describing should be left to the Campaign, a place where the mood you are describing should be reserved for.
you can make it rain fusion coils. this would be considered acid rain. i hate when people abuse fusion coils
lol thats really funni...but i think that if they actually added in i guess natural disasters as well to go along with the weather that would be pretty cool to be able to have these features tho..i mean to have it that when your playing an objective map in which after a certain time frame a natural disaster comes in and meses up things...say for instance you're playin a territories and your a sniper watchin over a territories when BAM!! a snow storm hits and effects your radar and your vision that woudl be soo awesome then Halo would be competing with some of the games like SC (which woudld be awesome) 8)
This is a dream I've had for a while. Imagine standing on top of the base in High Ground as the last man standing, having lightning light up 7-8 zombies making their way up from the beach. Maybe in Halo 8, when we all use Master Chief helmets as our controllers...
lol.....yeh nd we hav to use wii like remotes to shot...lmao...but man if they do make a weather engine that will be soo awesome
