Welcome one and all to our first Halo Infinite forge contest, Dueltacular! This will be a 2v2 map contest with our biggest prize pool ever. You read that right, our biggest prize pool EVER, with it being $10,000.

We are also partnering with our friends over at the HYE Energy Gaming Community to help judge this contest.

Dueltacular is a 2v2, or doubles, map building contest. With the advancements of Halo Infinite Forge we wanted this first contest to really allow people to show off the potential of forge while also creating content that the community is craving. Below are the basics.

    • 2v2 Core Maps
    • Must be set up to play slayer. We will be using Ranked Slayer in the 343 modes browser with a 25 score limit.
    • Maps can only be made using Halo Infinite Forge
    • 1 map submission allowed
      • Once submitted you can’t submit another or make edits, as in order to make sure the contest can be completed in a timely manner we will start initial judging as maps get entered in.
    • The Map must be created no earlier than today, the start of the contest (12/1/2022).
      • If your map is created before the start of the contest then it will be disqualified. If you attempt to circumvent the creation date then this will also result in disqualification and a potential ban from future contests.
      • Clarification: You are allowed remakes if you want to work on an old design that you have not started in Halo Infinite yet. But if you have already started on a map in Halo Infinite before December 1st, 2022, then you cannot use that for this contest.

You will have two months to create your best 2v2 Map. Make it play well and look good, with the power of Forge we are expecting to see some awesome looking creations.

    Start Date: December 1st, 2022

End Date: January 31st, 2023 at 11:59 PST

Judging Period: To be Determined and based upon the number of entries. Estimated a month and a half starting February 1st, 2023.

These are the people that will be judging your maps, they come from a wide variety of backgrounds and specialties.

    Judges:

    SIR IRON WOLF
    WAR
    I Crush All
    MrSnow
    Mooshg

    Guest Judge:

    HYE Energy

While this is a 2v2 contest and gameplay is the primary factor that will be judged, we don’t want you to forget about aesthetics. With the power of forge in this latest iteration we are looking for maps that can check all the boxes without hindering gameplay.

There is a lot of money (USD) up for grabs! In addition to the money, there may be prizes in the form of merch. Lucky for you the prize pool can only grow!

    Grand Prize:
    $5,000

    2nd Place:
    $2,500

    3rd Place:
    $1,500

    4-10th Place
    $200

    Community Vote
    $100

Submissions will be open soon. There will be a location on our new site where you can submit your map. Or a submission thread will be made available. We will let you know when it is open and we will also provide more detailed submission guidelines.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you follow the proper way to submit your map as well as the guidelines in the “What is it” section. Many times people with good maps unfortunately have to but cut because they missed some basic rules or guidelines. Especially with only allowing one entry, making sure you dot your i’s and cross your t’s will be very crucial.

Question: What if I am co forging with multiple people, how will submissions work?
Answer: You are allowed to co-forge, but you can only submit one map as the main author. You can be the secondary for any map but you can only submit one. Your co-forge buddy will have to submit the second map if you create a second map. Remember though, only the primary author will receive the money and it is up to them to split it up.

We will be providing lobbies that you can partake in to get playtests and potential feedback on your map before you submit it. We recommend joining this lobby or getting a lobby started, we can help promote lobbies too. We will attempt to have feedback lobbies after the contest has concluded but this will be dependent on judge availability.

I may have to give it a go! I was working on a 4v4 and BTB with D4rkDeath so this is a bit different for me. I probably won't win, but maybe I can give people my take on 2v2! lol xD

After reading Canadian and Salty's takes on the policy of only allowing maps which were created on or after December 1st, I realized my map I was created on November 25th.
If I make a new forge file and recreate my layout with better art, would that be eligible for the contest?

NO. Unless, of course, it has High Ground components =P

Going forward it would probably be a good idea just to announce the contest a week before it actually starts so that you'd have a chance to amend the rules

Probably, except now everyone knows when you made it :rip:

Not sure what the rush is. I've barely scratched the surface of what this forge can do and I've been on it hours a day since day one. Time frame seems like 10k for something rushed. This will force people to learn. Give them a month to learn and 3 to make a 5k dollar map.

If we had known we could not use maps we have already started in infinite, we could have waited to bring our old designs into this game - an advantage those on the inner circle had over the general public.

so, i just want to question how remake's are remotely allowed in a timed map design contest.
      1. how would a remake or even a remix of older halo maps be fair to judge against the original rest. the layout is not originally made by the forger. even as a remix.
      2. remaking/or using large map proportions that a forger has designed in a prior game,
are we ignoring the obvious fact that in these cases a remade map could have had many many months of testing and revisions before being rebuild of the competition. does this not count as circumventing the start deadline.

There is an inherent advantage that should not be allowed here in a timed map design competition.
remakes should be disallowed entirely for fairness. even a remix should be judged prior determining if it has changed enough from the original source before allowing it as a valid entry.

no one wants an unfair competition.

well remakes should generally not be allowed as the biggest part of competitions like these is designing the layout and it wouldn't be great if someone won using a remade halo map that effectively was not designed by the forger.

(may not be the case for this one but it should be)

Remakes or remixes should be allowed IMO because if the map/layout is a prior Halo map - even if they play well - you can take that into account when judging, and so an unoriginal layout will never get full points for originality anyway. Also I believe I know several people making maps who aren't above remixing things themselves cough cough =P I also don't think someone should win for copying a map though.

Personally I'm not bothered whether a map is original or not in these kinds of competitions. There's still a lot of skill and effort required to do a remake let alone the fact that most will put heavy weight on the aesthetics.

My only purpose for asking the question was to inform people who might be considering remaking a classic map of the hurdle that lie before them.

designing the layout is the biggest and most important part of these design competitions, its should be considered not much different to cheating using a remake regardless if it takes skill to make one accurately or not. as the layout design was not made by the forger

I don't think a remake has ever won anything in a Forgehub contest (unless it was a contest aimed at making remakes). So while it's technically allowed, anyone submitting a remake has essentially zero chance of winning anything. Allowing them in just lets people build what they want to build, but those actually designing their own levels have no reason for concern. I'm in no way involved in this contest but this is my perspective on the matter as someone who has been directly involved in the process in the past.

That's an opinion and everyone is entitled to one, however the contest doesn't actually stipulate that, nor is it even implied by it's description.

I'm definitely going to be giving this a go, not least because it provides an excuse for me to drag three of my mates back into Halo. Given what we've seen from Forge so far, I'm fully expecting to see some jaw-dropping stuff.

Quote taken from the announcement post
"While this is a 2v2 contest and gameplay is the primary factor that will be judged, we don’t want you to forget about aesthetics"

Gameplay is the layout and sandbox of the map.

I'm not concerned by remake at all it's just they shouldn't really be used as it goes against the point of a design competition.

More importantly I think an extension on the deadline would be smart, in general it's a bit short for a new forge that everyone is still learning and I know im not the first to mention that but even more because of the holiday season is right in the middle of the competition time frame, and is taking 2 to 3 weeks away from most people while celebrating the holidays.
