I've argued with people recently who essentially made the claim that math, art, psychology, and other 'compartmentalizations' of reality vary independently and aren't connected, and that 'truth' only exists in math. That's what I was hinting at, but that wasn't really the point. 'Types' of maps definitely do exist, but rarely do they offer precisely and entirely one 'type' of gameplay. Generalizations are useful, but are generally too vague to mean anything when it comes to level design. "Arcanum is a 3 lane" comes to mind
Thanks for expanding, I agree - your argument partners are stuck in the Kantian Kingdom of Phenomena, perpetually at odds with, yet eternally revering Plato’s Noumenal Forms ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ that’s long speak for “they stupid huh”
Canyon maps must be good because Blood Gulch is in every top 10 maps video. I also remember when Reach came out and Bungie thought it would be okay to put Hemorrhage in 4v4 Team Slayer with Scorpions on the map!
Weirdly enough, my buddy and I got quite the rush killing those stupid ass tanks with a warthog. It is pretty funny watching some dude in a tank panic as he fails to kill one little warthog that is timing his volley.
Saw some clips of 1 hour builds, and decided to give it a shot with a skeleton. I liked it, so i fleshed it out.
Almost everyone, ecspically 343i, builds shitty H5 maps because there built for washed up Halo kids (Dogs) when they shld be designed for God's. Infinity Ward knew what there game was and wasn't afraid to promote it's degeneracy.... I wish I could say the same for our community, but sadly we are all still stuck in the age of the Dog. I for one say let the dogmatic "Halo" map design principalaties be washed away and let us usher in a new age of enlightenment, the TECH AGE.
It took me some time to figure out what tech meant, but now that I do, I can say with confidence that tech is the way of the future
