I actually loaded up Halo 5 for the first time in forever to run around your map earlier. But personally I feel like that is one of those shapes where less is more. I had an idea like that with hexagons instead of pentagons a few years ago. Merging it with terrain was the right idea but the map is so confusing to navigate with all the haphazard and narrow openings that look playable but aren't.

Part of what I find interesting about level design from a psychological standpoint is that we all seem to design maps (and interpret other people's designs) in accordance with our personal play style. We build based upon our in-game intelligence. This means that we're capable of building the best possible map for the style of play that we generally use, and for the players that share our combination of intelligence, awareness, and skill.

On the other hand, we're generally unlikely to take into account alternative approaches to our map, because we're simply not conscious of what those approaches might be, or how they would be employed.

This is why a forger can build a map that plays exceptionally well within the group of people they play it with. This is also why a forger might mistake this to mean that they've made an exceptional map. You know what you know, and you don't know what you don't know. The gap between those is what leads most forgers to misinterpret their own abilities. It's also the case that sometimes a forger is ONLY interested in building for their personal enjoyment, and in that context, they are bound to be the best at doing that, because they understand what they want and like better than anyone else.

There are certainly cases where a designer can learn to account for play styles and levels of in-game intelligence that differ from their own, and these are the people that truly have the ability to be exceptional. It's also the case that very often other designers (being less flexible and observant) will not be able to recognize this ability, or understand the layers of thought put into a design.

Those are my thoughts for the day.

Coming in with those hot truth bombs as usual.

The whole list thing is just for fun, but that is why I didn't want to make just a "best forger" list. Best at what? Everyone is doing their own thing and that's why it's important to recognize people for what their focus is.

Claiming to be "the best level designer" though means you need to have a tremendous understanding of Halo outside of your own playstyle and a good catalog to back it up. I might even have to rewrite that considering this

Oof, I guess I need to update the aesthetics, and try playing the map a few times and find all the cool jump spots. The map is about knowing the geometry and it's pathways to get the drop on your opponent. Oh, and I got lazy and slapped down invis blockers. Didn't feel like working stuff out anymore considering that I'm registered for 23 hours of classes this summer and fall. Me no likey university.

Edit: 63.66° angles. I hate my life.

Im sure it is fun to jump around due to the nature of the shapes. i just felt like it could be streamlined when i ran around it. Purely showed me something like that a while ago too so ive been wanting to see more maps like that. The tele is the best part tho

Pretty sure he realized how irrelavent he is around here and this is a last ditch effort to get noticed. I don't think he's aware this is only gonna hurt how people view his future maps.

Nobody is irrelevant. Halo 5 is dead so I don't blame anyone for not wanting to Forge. Doesn't mean the thread has to be dead though. I'd rather argue about year old maps or something stupid than refresh the page and see "Last post 5 hours ago."

    @SgtSlaphead

Leaving this here for you because I really enjoyed our conversation about making affordable and sustainable living communities. I think its 100% achievable and I believe it begins with. . .

The hemp core or “Shiv” has a high silica content which allows it to bind well with lime. This property is unique to hemp AMONG ALL natural fibers known to man.

Hemp itself is a beneficial crop requiring no fertilizer, weed killer, pesticide or fungicide. It grows so thickly that weeds cannot grow. Farmers grow it in rotation with other crops and the crop following the hemp will require no weed killer because hemp naturally drives weeds out.

The hemp plant is seriously a gift from God/Nature. Its almost as if it was geo-engineered by an intelligent race and placed here on earth to live among lesser plants. Im not kidding when I say this, Hemp could save the world. Is there just one logical reason as to why it's still illegal to grow in the US???? Can someone, anyone, answer this for me?

It's the king of the forest Babylon they don't like it!
They chop it up, they heap it up and then they destroy it!

They stick you up, they lock you up
They take it for a crime
When it's the healing of the nation bet you never knew!
    Healing of the nation!
