That's purely a numbers game - of course there will be less gun deaths and violence if there are less guns - this doesn't say a goddamn thing about violence however, or theft, or assault, or threats, or even the severity of injuries sustained from residual violence. Casual sex is a result of the normalization of irresponsible sex and the breaking down of the moral and social barriers surrounding the activity. I've already said that 'casual' sex, in a marriage or near-married loving relationship is something to laud, to value, and to care about; intimate physicality of all degrees are welcome and encouraged in such a situation, and do indeed help maintain the relationship. It is therefore not irresponsible. However, casual sex outside of such a situation, while it may not be technically irresponsible - the use of condoms and other birth control methods, or preventative measures against STDs is technically responsible behavior - ignores the long-term effects of encouraging this behavior; there is psychological turmoil that results, and propagates to the next generation, to partners, to the greater culture. In that sense, it is irresponsible. Please refer to my previous post re. the reckless drivers who decide its ok to just bump into everything because there's no harm done, short term, to their own vehicle/body. Why were these women unstable? Had they slept around for years? Had they some idea they were going to land a prince charming afterward who would fulfill their neglected fantasy of having a loving husband who treats them well? I can only guess, but I'd have to say they probably were in this boat; where they could not hold a man to the standards they never held themselves to, and thus are on the brink of insanity when it comes to relationships. I would not want that relationship with those women either, if that's the case. But again, I don't know what you mean by 'unstable'. "If you have a strong sense of self..." - what does this mean? I have a strong sense of self too, and I still think that sex should remain squarely in the realm of loving marriages/very serious relationships. I don't take it lightly, and I do not let lust cloud my judgement when it comes to getting physically involved with someone I might fancy, because I put other values ahead of that. This is conjecture, but it seems to me you are approaching that idea from a stoic perspective - that you do not allow sex to affect you. And yet, is it not affecting you by making you build a barrier against its undeniable and inevitable erosion on your psyche? I don't have the link, but there's a very interesting Louis Theroux documentary that came out a few years ago that explores the physical and psychological effects of serial sexual encounters on men and women in the porn industry. One of the male stars, famous guy, is falling apart on the inside because he has to close himself off to the feelings he might develop, now that he's much older and wants to start a family. That's the kind of long term effects I'm talking about - and yes, it might be a particularly worn out or extreme example to use, but he nonetheless is living proof of this stuff.

If you really think that my views are that simple an broad, then I feel like I've completely wasted my time here.
