also, trying to learn any new layout when there is also a new gameplay element throws people off. I've concluded that you have to take feedback in those situations with a grain of salt because the frustration the player has with learning something new can be projected onto the new gameplay element and if it doesn't fit with their views immediately, they reject it or are at least a little more critical than they might otherwise be.
key maps = multi at a personal level. On a serious note. My only issue with Arcanum is the over reliance on clamber jumps in some areas. That is really the only thing I find exploitable about the map. The key can magnify it at times in the damage boost area but that is about it. I enjoyed it more than Oblivion which I think would definitely play better without that I-Cannon at the tele exit and binary on the top bridge. It was the combination of weapons, spawning, and positioning that made the map exploitable. Which I believe you updated. I am trolling and making fun of myself at the same time. I am not a stupid ass that doesn't think **** can't work. I mean if you remember I was the first person to tell you to make your key usage based. I liked most of what I saw from Xandriths map and I didn't think Soldat's map looked that bad based off what people were saying. I am sure if I played them I would find something I don't like about them but you can say that about any map. Also, I like making fun of my weight probably more than anybody.
You have no idea some of the feedback I've gotten on Arcanum that was so blatantly nonsensical and ridiculous that I just write it off. You realize making maps that 1: people are extremely uncomfortable with new ideas, and 2: people don't want what they think they want
one counter point to that would be... it's a pickup item. Pick. It. up. Being caught as the one without a damage boost when there is one, sucks too. Don't be the guy on the receiving end of the damage boost. Be the guy who has it
I hate the clambers too, I've just come to accept them in my maps at this point though. I used to try and scale everything to normal jump height but it made weird results.
Yeah, I've also observed one incident where two different people seemed to be overly critical of a new keymap because of something admittedly negative that the author said on the forum recently... so there's that too. Not liking someone can affect your view of what they produce and make one want to find those critical comments. There could be legit gripes with said map too, and IMO there are some, but the level of vitriol for this map seemed to me to be at least partially personal.
This is true but you have item placement, power positions, baiting, etc. to worry about as well. Also, my key map is going to be 4v4 ctf.
I should show you this trolly thing I do when I get the key on the map. Career and I come up with most annoying strats on the spot for maps. It is hilarious.
Its not a counter-point, though. Its the cause of the problem: Only one person can have a pick-up item. Being caught by a player with damage boost is certainly a disadvantage, but it doesnt hinder your movement on the map.
Ehh, I tend to not be moving long after I run into someone who has d-boost. Map movement limited to left stick circling around my dead body. To be clear, it is literally a counter-point. You take exception with its validity, but it is a counter point.
This is something that I feel Arcanum did well, in terms of the doorways. For me personally I never felt on Arcanum that I was restricted in where I could go, the key just gives you an added pathway to get to other areas faster. This is where I think Bloodlet Throne fell short, as the doorways seem to be more the only route, unless you want to walk all the way around the map.
Speaking of bad maps, that blockout (since dubbed Vizere) worked out fairly well. I need to round out some campy corners (mid tele landing/mid mid) , and make the middle area just a smidgen bigger (people fell through the 1 hole in the map too much lol). The walls surrounding the map aren't final; I want more glass and natural light to flow through. All this being said, I'd appreciate a second opinion and a dedicated walkthrough from someone if they have time tonight. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/...brbirbeI_8ad0fc8c-b72c-4f01-9c2c-b9857fbff276 Thanks in advice for the honest constructive criticism
If anything came from this I hope it is that people understand how punishable a clamber is and not to get too carried away with them.
