DESIGN: (Layout, Creativity, Theme) 1 (Poor), 2 (Below Average), 3 (Average), 4 (Above Average), 5 (Excellent) ART: (Lighting, Aesthetics, Atmosphere) 1 (Poor), 2 (Below Average), 3 (Average), 4 (Above Average), 5 (Excellent) GAMEPLAY: ("Balance", Spawns, Fun Encounters) 1 (Poor), 2 (Below Average), 3 (Average), 4 (Above Average), 5 (Excellent) No category for performance; let good maps place first and top maps can adjust performance later. Play each map at least 2 times and give a rating. Add ratings up and each judge will have their score for the map. Take the averages of all the judges' scores for the first wave; maps below 9 will not be played again. Second wave, play maps at least 3-5 times. Average scores again to eliminate maps that are below a 12 and then the finalists will consist of only 12-15 ratings, after which the rubric can take a backseat to critical thinking and more stress testing. Must not move on to next phase until each judge has completed their required amount of games. This way you don't end up with people who never played a map inb4 someone complains about art category because they want to submit a blockout

Considering you had such a small selection of maps to choose from currently i dont see any reason to take you at your word for these two being the standard to beat. You may just look back on this post in the future and wonder how you ever thought it so. At least i hope because to me you havent set a very high bar and if the community cant beat these then this may just end up being quite a grueling process. Looking forward to it regardless. Its great that you posted these because now i have somewhat of a basis to understand what you expect out of a 1v1. I definitely have a totally different standard for what i expect and im actually glad to say were definitely on two separate planes. It will be good for discussion and diversity in this process and i think thats what most expect from the final result. I would just request that the people reading this to not take the quoted maps at such high regard and then base your gameplay off of them. Do what feels right to you whether its focusing on fighting over numerous power weapons the entire game, traditional competitive arena style or whatever else you come up with.
lol I don't expect anything specifically from a 1v1 map, I think think Bioshift is the best 1v1 map in the game right now by far, and therefore it's where the bar lies. Despite what people might think, I am extremely open about maps. I don't really have preferences other than the aversion to already established ideas
I believe he was simply referring to quality. I don't think he was referring to any specific type of style So far the most enjoyable 1v1s for me were Tomato Soup and Tron. Bioshift is certainly also a quality map
I think the simpler approach would just be to eliminate the bottom 50% after every 2 plays. Maybe make it 3 plays after the first round.
Hey there are some really good discussions that have been held for the 1v1 Contest/Tourney - let's make sure to consolidate our chatter here now https://www.forgehub.com/threads/1v1-forge-contest-discussion.156679/ I'd hope we can announce the contest soon with the final details and rules. So if you want to help shape this contest into being a good one, comment there so things don't get lost or overlooked.
I said it was concerning that you said fun factor and creativity are your two factors to be basing the maps on. It's ridiculous. You shouldn't be a judge.
