Hell no lol --- Double Post Merged, Aug 15, 2017 --- I nominate Box knows because he has the best 1v1 in the game.
I want to be a judge @WARHOLIC, but I think the best way to go about this is to have a larger pool of judges that have access to a thread where the maps can be openly discussed.
Hahahahagshdhhdshgsh I should TOTALLY be a judge because I'm a loose cannon and hate the game but still bought a console to forge and never played in high level competitive scene because I suck thumbsticks Loose cannons make good judges, right? I'm only half serious, partially delirious, and mostly tired Don't pick me unless no one else volunteers because I kinda want to compete instead. Better use of a loose cannon. I will compete. No judge. Forget all the rest of this message.
I'd rather have a tight pool of judges who know what makes a strong and unique 1v1 maps, rather than a large pool of judges who tenous grasp on what they are judging competitively or design wise. By openly discussed do you mean so anyone can read the discussion aside from just the judges? Would you want a jury to openly discuss it's proceedings?
There are a handful of people here on forgehub who would be the go-tos for map design talk but have also shown zero interest in 1v1 design and have actively downplayed its feasibility in H5. Others like myself and @Soldat Du Christ who are less vocal but have been constantly 1v1ing and building for 1v1 who know just how well it can work. Basically just saying that the smaller the pool of judges, higher the chances you'd get results that are totally different than those of a different set of judges. There just needs to be diversity and with how easy it would be to test 1v1 maps i dont see why we shouldnt have more than 4 judges. 6-8 would be ideal, with a hidden thread/discord to collect thoughts.
I agree immensely. A larger pool of opinions will produce a larger variety of maps. It'll strike a finer line of balance and creativity in the winners which should be the goal of any forge contest.
Building for 1v1's is very forgiving and easy to balance, and so the judging process would from my perspective involve the fun factor, creativity, and art/atmosphere. As a result, I really don't think we need "1v1 specialists" to judge Also it's much easier and much more effective to have a small pool of open and competent judges to ensure variation rather than having a ton of judges
I would like to be a judge... I think i would bring a good balence of opinion to the pannel to combat favoritism, fuzzy feelings and so forth. I'm also a long standing and active 1v1 forger. I started out my forge career making 'micro maps' so to speak, and since i have branched out to accomodate other player counts, while retaining my interest in 1v1 design. Some may be familier with one of my most popular maps, Northern Darkness https://www.forgehub.com/maps/northern-darkness.3609/ Which i think has 400 bookmarks and plays last i checked Comming into this, it should be known i'm merely interested in making sure we get the best map line up possible. I'm excited to see all the 1v1 maps that come out of the competition, having been depraved of them for a while now.
Regarding 'Building for 1v1s is very forgiving and easy to balance...' I can make the inverse statement too but it doesnt make it true. You making that statement is concerning because it shows that you dont see the depth available and its a trend with how 1v1's are currently thought of. If it were so easy im inclined to believe thered be more 1v1 maps with actual substance to their gameplay than currently. Im not saying you, multi or anyone else shouldnt be a judge, just that it makes sense to me to have judges for a 1v1 map contest that have spent their time actively discussing and focusing on h5 1v1 maps who are more competent in its category. I think thats quite reasonable. Regardless of who judges im excited to see interest in this and the discussion that will follow. Im super stoked and ready to start dropping feedback on everyones maps as they come in. I would love to help test or offer my thoughts to make them the best they can be.
Anyone that has publicly said 1v1s are trash in this game shouldnt be a Judge. "1v1's are trash in Halo 5" - SaltyKoala
