Theres like 15 pages since Dunco's last comment and I already know it's not worth reading any of it.

    Extermination maps aren't 1v1 maps.
    Extermination maps aren't 2v2 maps.
Extermination maps aren't fast paced 4v4 maps.
    Extermination maps are extermination maps.
They are hollow designs with virtually ZERO gameplay depth.

If you believe otherwise, you probably don't know much about designing core.

I wouldn't feel the need to finish my Forge maps if I saw maps like them being made, but there aren't. I've only shared screenshots of 7 or so maps in this thread and I just listed over 40. Most of them are layouts and themes that I have not seen in Halo 5.

I'm not going to claim they play the best because most of them don't have concrete designs, but the concepts I feel are worth sharing because they're part of a niche that I don't think is being filed. For instance, I was the second person to do authentic Sangheli architecture in Forge and I still have the most holistic representation of it over a year later. Therefore, I feel obligated to share my Sangheli maps to show the community how it can feel in Forge.

Seriously though goat. I'm sick and tired of you not finishing these ****ing incredible looking maps and teasing us mere mortals with glimpses into the mind of the goat. At least just post them in an aesthetic category or something. **** it being playable. I just want to walk around with my mouth open. Seeing your bridges just changed my whole way of thinking about forging bridges. If you don't put your **** out there every once in a while we're all left in the dark ages making stick bridges and ****.

So am i. It's literally depressing.

So do i. I want to go on any of my maps and feel like I'm somewhere, and part of that immersion for me comes down to maintaining the right mood. It upsets me endlessly when I can't do it because of Forge. It's one thing if I'm too dumb to figure the layout out, but not having the right pieces or canvas is cruel. 90% of my problems with Forge wouldn't be there if you could change the color of vegetation and hide the skybox on all of the maps.

That island map is a bit of both problems. There's a more lush version that was more well received, but I wasn't fond of the shading on the rocks, so I made it more autumnal. I still don't like the way the sunlight hits the asteroid terrain, but the map is otherwise doable to a level i'm satisfied with if I redesign the layout.

I don't think they have to be hollow though. The gametype isn't very flexible, but most of what I've seen from exterm have been very safe symmetric arenas that are basically glorified octagons. I think the layout me and Purely Fat were designing would have broken the mold and provided more geometric depth to the gametype that the others didn't. The last man standing should have to move around to maintain cover and the map should allow them to make a comeback play.

Right. I made a lengthy post a while back saying that if Exterm buffed the respawn times and just made the maps larger/more linear a team could just keep pushing through the map with team wipes until they got to the other end. Like Narrows.

And in case anyone thinks I only use terrain, there are at least 20 structure heavy maps on my files. I tend to repeat the spiral shape on my maps because I like how it feels to move on it, but it's important to me that no two maps look, feel or play the same as each other. For instance, I only want one autumnal map in this game and i'm still trying to decide which one it should be.

Terrain is not a type of structure.

    lol

there are plenty of maps in there that don't feature terrain pathing, and quite a few that don't have terrain at all. they aren't really that fun for me to work on though.

if 343 gave us the brick texture, i'd have made so many structural maps by now.

Terrain is one of the best and easiest items to make look good, so who could blame anyone for using those more than any other items, despite your best efforts a structure heavy map won't look nearly as dev-like as a natural map, especially ones that don't use grass terrain (because grass is not flat). You can definitely get close, but you can always tell in some way blocks are used, but not with terrain and rocks.

I'd say yes and no. Terrain generally has the best textures, but unlike blocks, it requires the right environment and shapes to look good. Otherwise, it'll look like you installed carpet on your map.

A good chunk of it is "unusable" in most situations too, and by that I mean it's not convincing. You have to bend over backwards to get snow to look good in this game.

See how the snow accumulates in the cracks and crevices of the rocks? Good luck doing this in Halo 5.

It's sad that the rocks don't have an overlay feature considering the technology existed in Halo 4. Hell, it's in Halo 5 on some of the glacier pieces now that I think about it. If you rotate a glacial log for instance, frost is translated on the top.

Btw I've watched about 25 videos of Jordan Peterson and he is a great thinking mind but the last few I've seen were about religion, god etc. and I must add he is also very cunning. He dodges the questions like a ninja, talks in circles and is really vague if you ask me.

I more of a Sam Harris type of guy. He and Jordan did share some conversations together.

I also do believe that guys like this can speak like their opinion is truth, which in a lot of cases can be right , but when it comes to listening, reading or having concersations I believe you should let your sources on a subject be as diverse as possible, for different insights and viewpoints.

I can't take Sam Harris seriously since he debated William Lane Craig and resorted to getting angry and started dishing out insults towards the latter end. Most debates couldn't possible declare a winner, each side thinks their own was more sound. But that might be one of the only debates I've ever seen where even Atheists were like dude you ****ed up lmao chill. Sam was just deflecting and being childish.
