Why does a poll of under 1000 count as the whole community? Never said it covered the whole community, just that it was more reputable because it was conducted over multiple forums with different opinions. Fair enough, but I'd not look at the minuscule fanbase of Halo 5 for an understanding of whether Sprint and Spartan Abilities are good for Halo. I'd go to the sales figures and popularity/player retention and compare that to the original trilogy, especially Halo 3. Why would people listen to the 343i fanboys and thoughtless players that simply refuse to understand why Sprint and other movement abilities isn't good for Halo as a franchise? I have many gripes with 343, doesnt mean im a 343 fanboy because I enjoy some stuff they do. I'm sorry if I implied that, but enjoying abilities doesn't require knowledge of how they have greater cons and lesser pros for gameplay. You don't seem to convey that knowledge. These abilities force maps to be very 1-dimensional in all spaces if abilities are even considered to enhance map traversal in the slightest, yet 343i refuses to make maps take advantage of these abilities past, 'You can jump n climb here, durr.' I dont understand your point here. If anyting, it forces maps to be even more vertical. You're right, you don't understand. I know that when Spartan Abilities are the single core design aspect in a map design it becomes more vertical, but all I'm saying is that 343i didn't properly introduce them with adequate map design to allow players to properly use them in the more advanced, offensive ways. 343i is at most fault here. Also, teleporters and lifts accomplish verticality with a far more consistent feel, and Spartan Abilities are a great way to make those aspects less 1-dimensional like Spartan Abilities on their own are. Spartan Abilities should enhance and coexist with existing Halo map design tropes, not replace them, or, in 343i's case, be an excuse for poor map design. Ad hominem? Really? Implying Republicans can't develop individual opinions? Really? You are an insufferable ****. lmfao its common sense... if you go to a Democratic forum and ask how many people want a republican for president, you will have very few. if you go to a Republican forum and ask how many people want a democrat for president, you will have very few. Not sure why you got so offend by that, but whatever. I'm not offended, just annoyed at your lack of understanding behind @MultiLockOn 's reasoning. I understand that his impatient attitude makes him brash and inconsiderate, but his reasons are spot on when it come's to Halo's core design philosophy and downfall from the #1 Xbox franchise. Just listen to him and try to understand his and the oldskool fanbase's point of view. Also, there were about 20% of either party's members in the last presidential election that thought that the opponent's candidate would've been better, even on quite a few party specific political forums. Oh, god, I've become a more patient and considerate mini-multi. I think I need to go to my Kekistani place of worship to cleanse my self of sin and the evil MultiTurnOn's demonic clutches.
If Halo 6 is announced with sprint then people will ask for a classic playlist, again. That's not mob mentality, I don't need to play every single FPS to know the effects of sprint. I've been making maps for the past decade of my life and I know as much as every other designer on this forum, and there are many, exactly how much these movement mechanics hurt level design. People just know what they like. As for your comment on the revenue stream from Warzone; AGAIN your reasoning is incredibly off basis. Yes, reqs made money. Any microtransaction micro model will make a lot of money. I never commented anything about the topic or hinted otherwise. You made a ridiculous comment about how if people actually wanted classic settings it would've come sooner than 2 years into the game. I made an equally stupid statement in that if people really wanted BTB it would've come sooner than 6 months in the game. And you respond with the monetary sales of reqs lol that has nothing to do with it. And for the record, Warzone is nothing like BTB.
Guys, calm down and listen to some chillwave/futurefunk/jazzfunk. I don't care that this isn't the music thread, ya nincompoops
Quick change your opinions before someone accuses you of being brainwashed by me. It happens to someone every month I swear. EDIT: I can dig vaporwave.
"So before they even had a chance to try it out in a new game? sounds like mob mentality to me." Real quick, wtf is that supposed to mean? You say you've been playing since CE, but fail to understand the unanimous negative reception of base Reach and 4's gameplay implementations. And lets just say that didn't happen to be the case, look at what we received. Bland, unintuitive core MP design that exclusively followed dying trends. And that's just one slice of the cake my friend. Let's not forget all the content they missed day one, some of which isn't even here to this day.
The Halo franchise looks a lot like the US government right now. Watch, 7 years from now people will think having no healthcare is fine and poor people should just adapt.
@Forge4dayz Fair enough, but I'd not look at the minuscule fanbase of Halo 5 for an understanding of whether Sprint and Spartan Abilities are good for Halo. I'd go to the sales figures and popularity/player retention and compare that to the original trilogy, especially Halo 3. If we had a poll of every player from every background that has ever played halo 5, then I would use that. Unfortunatly we dont. doesn't require knowledge of how they have greater cons and lesser pros for gameplay. If I, along with many other people am entertained by a form of media thats main purpose is to entertain people, then how are we defining what a pro and a con of gameplay is? This is how opinions form. So is this a map design issue or an advanced movement issue? Bouncing back and forth between the two for whatever fits your narative isnt helping you build a very structured arguement. Im not confused by map design, im confused by your interpretation of what 1, 2, and 3 dimensional spaces are. all halo games have utilized the x, y, and z axis. the z axis is far more utilized in halo 5. I'm not offended, just annoyed at your lack of understanding behind MultiLockOns reasoning. I understand that his impatient attitude makes him brash and inconsiderate, but his reasons are spot on when it come's to Halo's core design philosophy and downfall from the #1 Xbox franchise. Just listen to him and try to understand his and the oldskool fanbase's point of view. I completely understand Multilockon's reasoning, I just dont favor it over my own. Bungie and 343 have very different and clearly established core design philosophy's. We are playing, and will continue to play 343 Halo games. You are entitled to your own design philosophy, Multi is entitled to his, I am entitled to mine. And I also want to mention I was old school. Im not new to halo, Ive been playing for 13 years now. Also, there were about 20% of either party's members in the last presidential election that thought that the opponent's candidate would've been better, even on quite a few party specific political forums. True, but it was just an example to convey a simple idea. I wasnt too focused on the details, just basic the principal.
Just going to respond to this tidbit and then I'd rather not waste time with this guy but "So is this a map design issue or an advanced movement issue? Bouncing back and forth between the two for whatever fits your narative isnt helping you build a very structured arguement." Game design and level design are the same thing 90% of the time. Changing movement speed, kill times, jump height, all affect the way a map plays. There's a reason you could take just about any map in any Halo and put it into Halo CE and it would play spectacular, likely much better than their native games. It's because Halo CE has controlled simple uniform movement, with a fast kill time and skill based weapon sandbox. Take any Halo map and put it in Halo 5 and it will almost always play utterly incomparably worse. Halo 5 game design is remarkably inflexible and requires an absurd amount of effort to balance any given map properly. CE is self balancing. That's what I consider good game design vs bad game design. One will be fun and work no matter what. One requires hoops to jump through.
@MultiLockOn If Halo 6 is announced with sprint then people will ask for a classic playlist, again. That's not mob mentality, I don't need to play every single FPS to know the effects of sprint. I've been making maps for the past decade of my life and I know as much as every other designer on this forum, and there are many, exactly how much these movement mechanics hurt level design. People just know what they like. ok, I can respect your opinion. I disagree with you, and your friends, but I still respect it. Just because you call something rediculous, that doenst actually make it so. You need to back yourself up. 343 has been listening to the community some-what this last year. we asked for OG rocket launcher, we got it. we asked for infection, we got it. we asked for custome game browser, we got it. we asked for a race game mode, we got it. There are several others I didnt even mention. This whole "sprint is bad for halo" issue wasnt nearly as talked about until these last few months. Do you know how easy it is to implement a public game mode were they just remove the spartan abilites and increase speed? if is was such a sought after feature as you make it out to be, we would have gotten it sooner. 343 straight up said they are pushing to make warzone the new btb replacement lol I agree they are not the same but it is what it is. They are a business and they want to make money.
