I'd just like to reiterate that the only thing I like about Breakout is the grid pieces. I've excepted that this is going to become an on going meme, but for some reason I think a few of you people actually think I like Breakout. Anyway I'm just going to have fun with it unlike another person who fell victim to an over done meme.
It's okay man. Admittance is the first step towards cleansing yourself, denial won't get us anywhere. Say it with me, "I'm hex and I like breakout more than any Halo game." Jkzombieslater?
I searched for Oblivion last night and ended up loading a version from December, not sure if it was from your files directly or not though as I loaded it first without checking the author so I can't say if it was an edited file or not. I play on an HP EliteDisplay E232 Monitor on normal brightness for Halo and I could see the ground perfectly fine. There were no blacked out areas, but there was a strange pitch black room I spawned in for some reason and could get out of. I've played easily over 10,000 matches if not twice that in multiplayer through out the history of Halo and I had someone who has been playing Halo only for a bout a month to get a fresh players perspective on the map. I do think that the map has complex intricacies of lines of sight that require play testing to know how it would play. The map is quite visually beautiful, however I was almost unable to locate the second teleporter after searching high and low for it. More than a 2 vs 2 and the map would become overcrowded. The newer to Halo 5 player who only plays doubles as he loves the competitive nature and teamwork of 2 vs 2's and doesn't like the chaotic play in 4 vs 4's has about 30ish hours in that category only. His opinion of the map was that it looked awesome, but he wouldn't like the idea of playing it in the doubles play list due to all the weird paths to try to figure out. I personally think it would be fun to play, but I do worry that the top mid catwalk is harder to grenade a player down from than most people think. It is balanced though with the other paths being able to shoot a player down from it though. I can tell there was an excessive amount of effort that had gone into considering all the angles each vantage point / line of sight has to offer. It is a map that offers "learning new things" about it longer after the first few times of playing it through. Curious as to a newer players thoughts, I load up Goat's Spellbound for him and he stated that Spellbound is a much easier map to take in and learn the layout quickly. Even during the one game we walked through it, he said he already understands the map and it's paths that he could confidently play it without confusion as to where he was heading towards or looking at. Spellbound is also an awesome looking map and aesthetically beautiful. I didn't tell him anything about the maps or what flaws to look at or for. I've read every post ever mentioning any kind of Oblivion "drama" so I know what I was looking for, but I wanted to see how the average player of Halo would give feedback on the maps. I personally think that anyone making a serious effort to make a map should post it in the forge discussion section and instead of everyone here causing drama should load the posted maps and provide actual feedback to members to help create high quality forge maps. Triple A company's have a ton of effort put into play test and feedback during the creation of maps, it would be good if we applied that same theory to Forged maps here on the site.
@MultiLockOn I agree with zombie on this one. You said this thread is how you react when you're being harassed, and I could be mistaken, but didn't you start it?
Everyone I've talked to doesn't really like the gameplay on Oblvion. Just trying to help you understand why. But your standards are objectively the best so I should just stop lol
Excuse me? When I had played the set of 2v2s we did a while back, I didn't say that compared to the other maps, it was terrible. I only admitted it "played slower." When I said that, I literally meant "It was slower than the other games." We played Grid Walk, my map, which is just three rooms with three portals. Of course it was gonna play fast compared to what Oblivion is. I remember also playing the Imminent remake, which is just a super simple map with three two-way pair portals and open platforms. And you know what? That played nearly as slow as the Oblivion match. Two or three minutes off, at best. I should know, because my autism is great at helping me remember things that shouldn't be important. **** man, the more you try to rekindle this stupid ongoing **** punching, the more I wish I never even got the chance to meet you.
I am curious, is there any other forger that can say they landed a dream job as a level designer for a AAA studio? I haven't heard of one, just curious if I missed the news flash. BTW, this quote balloon feature on selected text is nice. Nah, it's always due to cliques. @MultiLockOn, did your youtube videos factor into you landing your job? Ya, just look at the level designers at 343i...
My definition of a bad map would be One that is bad I cannot tell you how many forge maps that got into playlists (Reach) that I cannot stand playing on ONLY BECAUSE THEY LOOK LIKE ****. It was like the forger couldn't put two blocks together. The same was true with the **** looking "competitive maps" in H4. The bottom line is that if you cannot stand looking at a map because it looks like ****, then it fails to be a decent map. If you cannot stand looking at the map and rage quit so that you don't have to endure its terrible looks, then the map is a total failure, no matter how well it plays. Some people never could grasp that point. @MultiLockOn will just have to be content with getting a job at a AAA studio, I guess. What if I were to tell you he forged it to get a job? @A 3 Legged Goat , you remain the most level headed and objective individual here at FH.
Because I think the number of people that share your perspective on that is very small, especially within the forge community where the focus is more on designing layouts.
This thread is polarized almost as bad as the last election... In this corner, purely fat and xzample like each other's posts. In that corner, multi and fly like each other's posts. I tend to agree. If it were me, I would have been like, "Hey, thanks everyone, you all helped me get my dream job". It would be enough to have those who despise me envy me. That said, there are others here that have serious issues...
I remember when you first came out with those videos on forging and I thought you put a lot of heart into it, but it lacked the kind of structure I would want to see in tutorials. But hey I am sure it helped so there you go. And kudos on the job.
I have no idea what got him the job, and neither do you. It's beside the point though. It's not that people don't 'grasp' your view on what makes a good or bad map, it's that they have a different opinion. Everyone has different priorities and preferences. It's part of what makes forging and the forge community interesting to me.
