Some things I'd like to see: - A separate inversion setting for both controller and mouse. Currently they share the same settings which is very frustrating for people who use default on mouse and inverted on controller. - A chat system that is available in the menus or at least the lobby. It also needs a chatlog because right now messages disappear after five seconds and you can't read them back which is not ideal. - Spartan customization. While there are only very limited ways to unlock customization items, it would be nice to at least be able to change your Spartan's armor color, your tag and you avatar without going to the Waypoint website. - Theater mode. Without theater it's very difficult to capture gameplay footage of your map if you only play on PC which is a big part of promoting maps.
-The ability to follow creators would be so great for everyone and be far less of a hassle to find your favorite persons maps. -People shouldn't be labeled the original creator when saving copies of other peoples maps, a very strict system with a request option to trade ownership or the ability to tag multiple owners would help. Its probably not plausible to add at this point, but I feel like the content browser in its current state makes it too easy to steal maps and content and be labeled the original creator. - I don't know if I am the only one who has this issue but named locations and death barriers are always visible and actually affect the way lighting generates in forge, it is a huge headache to forge with these bright barriers always showing, I think a toggle to show or hide barriers and named location volumes would be so amazing. -Probably a ridiculous thing to want, but I wish a most bookmarked option would be in front with the most liked option instead of buried under custom search options. -Different sorting options for content browser would be great, being able to list out your content in a list format instead of a grid with a pictures would probably allow quicker more convenient access to many of your own files, people with loads of prefabs have to scroll through so much when it would be so much accessible and likely faster to load in a list format.
As a monitor, open the menu, go to "Tool Options" and find the "Volumes" setting - change to "examined" =D
There actually is a setting to do that (at least on console. Can't imagine it's different on PC). iirc, it's on the map options tab, there should be an option to turn volumes on or off.
Okay, actual Forge request - maybe not just PC only... I've been spending a lot to time lately learning about CI tools, so I've got deployment of updates on the mind =D Request: Let me replace the contents of one file with the contents of another from the file browser. This keeps the metadata of the Release File (Name, description, bookmarks, etc) but the file contents (map, pieces, scripts, etc) in place. Things like bookmark count and likes could be tied to versions. Optionally, the author field gets updated with the new file while the original owner stays intact. Forger story: As a Forger who updates his maps, I want the ability to have "Release Files" that I can update in place from a regular map file so that I can easily push updates of my content out to players who have bookmarked my Release Files. Player story: As a Player who bookmarks content, I want to only bookmark a map once from my favorite forgers so that I can spend less time in the Content Browser and more time playing Customs. Detail (Forger's perspective): This would let me maintain a public file that people can bookmark (say a Release File named "Junglerock") and show progress. So if I start an update and save new, unplayable copies while working on it (say files named Junglerock 0.5.8, Junglerock 0.5.9, etc). Then, when I get to my next playable iteration, I can update the Release File in place, so that people who have it bookmarked get the improvements - a push model that allows new development, essentially. Downloaders can always save their own copy if they want to freeze a map version - an essential for tournament hosts and matchmaking pulls. It would make patching exploits extremely easy, and let people check out new versions or improvements to a WIP without rebookmarking. And, my development on new branches won't threaten the integrity of a bookmarked file. This really supports the release of 2.0 versions of maps, and could really help remove the tradeoff between content visibility and iterative development that Forgers without large community presence need to make. If this feature is not implemented: Players need to remember to regularly check file browsers for updates to map. Forgers have 2 options if they want to push an update to an existing bookmark instead of saving a new file. First, Forgers can just do all development work in one Forge session on their bookmarked variant and only save when it is playable. No testing can occur before Players see it. Second, Forgers can use Prefabs to group all changes in a development branch, drop it into their release file, and then delete conflicts... but porting an entire map to an existing file and potentially breaking my players' bookmarks is a little nerve wracking. Having the option to do this automatically from the file browser would be awesome. Alternatives: Versionable files, a la Git.
I have some more feedback for H5 Forge. First off, forging on PC is way faster for me. And it's not because of mouse. I actually still use controller. Its because I can use keyboard and type in location and angle degrees very quickly and I can get things into position at least 10x faster than on xbox. I think they could enhance this even more. In the little text boxes they allow you to modify the angles and position coordinates by typing in values, they should add little up and down arrow buttons next to them for easy, quick fine tuning. They should also allow you to click in the box and use the scroll wheel on the mouse to increase or decrease the value. These would be very minor enhancements that would save quite a bit a time and make it even more user friendly. Forging on PC is pretty fun. Keyboard inputs has helped speed up forging quite a bit, but it could be even faster with these additions. Also, on another side note, I have a lot of bookmarks. When I go to look at my bookmarks on the PC version, when I goto the second page of bookmarks, it just loads the bookmarks from the first page. So basically I can only see my first page of bookmarks. They need to fix this ASAP.
Good to know. Makes me think it might get fixed. Pretty major bug for them to roll out. How do they not catch stuff like this in testing? lol. It's as if there is no testing.
There's loads of testing... but since the File Browser is critical for Forge PC to work, they'd have the choice of "Ship Forge PC with a Bookmark cap that we can patch" or "Hold the release"
- First-person FOV slider up to at least 120+ - Auto adjust weapon viewmodel positions when changing FOV, or the addition of a slider to manually adjust them - Third-person FOV slider up to at least 90+ - Uncapped framerate limit or at least up to 120-144 FPS - The Input/mouse lag needs improvement. Especially while using vsync. - Enable text chat in lobbies - Extended graphic options, such as an option to extend the LOD distance on forge objects and shadow render distance - MORE Gametypes!... Race is missing, for example. - Implement at least a small amount of REQ points rewarded for completing custom game matches - Full Spartan customization section in-game or at least on waypoint (weapon skins, assassinations, service tag, etc.) - Enable a way to use NVIDIA DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) - Addition of an "UNDO button" in Forge, to undo the last change if you make a mistake - Unfortunately, saving a copy of a map while in forge removes the original author's name when it should never - The "Toggle Search Visibility" option should be disabled by default when someone saves a copy of a map/prefab - More forge object texture options for more variety (brick walls, ply wood, etc.) - Place-able water objects/blocks of various sizes and depths - Add "Theater Mode" - Internet down? Dedicated server down? Server maintenance? I get it... it's a shady Microsoft tactic to get people to pay for Xbox Live Gold, but why on Earth can't you forge offline on PC where Xbox Live Gold does not exist? Extremely annoying. - Extend the kill barrier depth in the water on Tidal, so that you do not die until your head or neck is underwater - Remove the blue tint in shadowed/indoor areas on Alpine when using the "sunset" skybox. It looks bad. - Try to improve scripting for moving/rotating objects to make them animate smooth(er) - A way to set your lobby to invite-only, so you can forge in peace - Not sure if there is a way to kick people from games, but there needs to be if there isn't - We got grime and frost... how about some dirt?
Agreed on all points, especially with adding FOV options. Playing on my PC with such a narrow FOV makes me feel sick.
They will be adding an FOV slider, but my concern is that it won't go high enough for people who have large monitors.
Why can't we change the texture on terrain and rocks to the different canvas skins? It seems like it would be a huge time saver if we could. Obviously this isn't specifically for Forge PC, I just couldn't figure out where to post a suggestion like this as I don't use Twitter.
I am curious, why must you be online to forge for? What rationale did 343 ever give? Or did they not ever give one? --- Double Post Merged, Dec 23, 2016 --- I really like this idea. I would make it where the next time they play the map that they are notified that a new version exists and ask if they want to download it? If they say no, then it won't ask again until yet another update is provided.
