Hey there fellow forgers! So, recently I fired up my own Youtube channel, and as of now, I've just been posting personal map trailers. I'm looking to add a little something extra to not only my Youtube, but to my Twitch as well. I'd like to start up a regular, 1 Hour Speed Forge Challenge. The rules would be simple. I have an hour of in game time to create a map based off of a theme that you guys suggest here on Forgehub! Afterwards, you judge if I pulled it off or not! I'd appreciate some ideas to start me off, so please comment any ideas below! I'm excited to see what ya'll can come up with, so let me have it! My Youtube Channel: Ascend Hyperion My Twitch Channel: Ascend_Hyperion I would also greatly appreciate a subscribe and follow of course! If you're lookin' to add a little extra content to your feeds, or you'd like to catch all the live stream action from The Thursday 13, consider doing both!
The inside of a prison. Not some old infection style but new, high tech and futuristic. A western town. Complete with a saloon, sherrif's office and a station. Submarine indoor docking hangar. With a submarine ofcourse. Maybe my ideas need 2 hours
If only people would lol =D That said, If you want to do a Breakout map, I've got an interesting idea that I haven't had the chance to prototype yet. Create a regular-sized Breakout map (something like Crossfire, or Trench), but instead of putting the flag in the center and the capture plates in the bases, reverse it. This means you've got both capture plates in the center, and two neutral flags - one per team. Yes, it totally works. Then, you'd have a "race to the center" dynamic, where the teams would have to balance being the first to plan their flag in the central area and playing it safe to avoid the elimination mechanic. I know you're only giving it an hour, but it would be a really interesting proof of concept. I'm planning on doing my own version of take on that concept once CF has finished their existing Breakout maps (shameless plug) in September, but you could be the first!
@SaltyKoala - The reason I'm still making Breakout maps is: 1) Not many other people are doing it - nature abhors a vacuum worse than my kitchen floor. 2) This is new level design area, and there are so many different ways to go explore it. I have literally 10 different riffs on the matchmaking Breakout gametypes that would each offer their own unique experience, all self-contained to a map design, so it can be played out of the box. I'm planning on building a portfolio of all these different riffs because it's fun, and a good exercise at taking someone else's design and iterating on it. For some reason, it's more interesting that making yet another Slayer map, probably because of the novelty.
Better map idea - and it's non-Breakout, for Salty's sake: "Medusa" Make a map built around a center object that you cannot look at without being frozen. You can accomplish this effect by making a Medusa head that has enough objects to lag the framerate if you look at it in it's entirety. Use Plasma Casters and Energy Swords as the weapons, as players will be looking at the ground for most of the game (bounces and melees)
