You've scrapped your maps countless times at the first sign of someone disliking ANY part. it's extremely easy for anyone paying attention to tell that you definitely don't practice what you preach in that "everyone should forge what they want." I know how easy it is to throw out general statement like that, but I urge you to practice a little bit of introspection before you accuse anyone else of "measuring dicks"
Who cares who "deserves" more praise, it's not like people praising remakes takes the praise away from originals. Anyways, enjoy the ensuing argument everyone!
It's an opinion that directly diminishes all the time and effort I put into making my remakes. It's painstaking work, and for me it takes the same amount of effort that making an original map does. The difference is that no, it doesn't make you vulnerable. And that's exactly why I make them, because I don't have the mental strength to be subjected to the kind of scrutiny that making original maps requires. So good for everyone who makes them, seriously. Maybe I'm disproportionately pissed about what he said, but it's hard coming here with nothing but good intentions and seeing someone post something that implies my work is worth less than others. I've accepted that I'm not good at designing maps, but here it is, constantly being thrown in my face one way or another. Maybe he was shitposting, maybe he didn't want to be taken seriously. But I don't know Xandrith well enough for him to talk about me/my work in that way and to not take it literally. Why did I post? I'm going to make myself vulnerable here, but I'll say it. The one guy who's opinion I fear the most praised my map and I felt like I could finally ****ing post again. And this literally happens immediately afterward and I'm back to feeling like I shouldn't even bother. I've let people just say whatever about me in the past and **** like this keeps happening, so I figured I'd try something else. Here's the thing. I never said it took talent. I never said I deserved attention, let alone more than other peoples. And no, maybe it doesn't matter that I don't feel that way about these things. I'm not trying to act like people who make remakes get the short end of the stick. But you post this opinion of yours directly after I've posted my wall of remakes, that makes me feel like I'm under fire. And I'm sick of it. Why should I get **** on because of what I forge? All I know is I enjoy forging and all of my original **** isn't well received so I make remakes. I'm personally sorry that remakes get more attention, but that's just how it works. But if you or anyone else forges for attention then you're in it for all the wrong reasons to begin with.
That's exactly what it does? I didn't really say that in the first place anyways. People freaked out over my opinion so I've tried to explain.
If you can name one map I scrapped solely because of what someone else said, and not because I did not like it myself, then I'll go on a porn posting spree.
Uh, I definitely don't have a limited amount of praise to give out that gets drained if I praise a remake. I know that's not what you initially said, but you did say it. Nothing wrong with your initial opinion, but your justification was questionable which is why I jumped in
spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound that one sangheli map spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound spellbound People are walking on eggshells anytime they're in a party with you. You had multi, one of the most straightforward and blunt people I know, stumbling over his own words so that he wouldn't provoke you to delete your map. I mean come on man, it's clear as day. Maybe you don't delete your maps based on what others say, but you're extremely easy to persuade. That's why people are so ****ing careful around you. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 12, 2016 --- Ok, yeah you're right. It's just that people spend a limited time praising maps, not that they run out of compliments or something.
Well, in fairness, your 'original' maps kinda did suck, and the fact that you had kids fanboying over them/you made it all the worse. Your remakes look pretty solid, and I do welcome good remakes, but they raise the ever present issues... Halo kiddies prefer remakes over something new, even if the new thing is miles better. Halo kiddies have an aversion to change or trying anything new. If they had their way, they'd play remakes till the end of days, and that does a disservice to the rest of the forge community. But hey, if you can't handle the heat, get out of the ****in kitchen.
Do they suck enough to warrant the hate they get? I'm not so sure. I never claim that they're any good, so basically I'm left wondering what I ever did to deserve that level of hate. Really. It's not my fault that kids fanboy, but I take the fall for it, it's ****ing shitty. Basically what I don't understand is why there has to be any ****ing heat in this kitchen to begin with...? To be honest Schnitzel, I had no idea I didn't want to post **** on here because of you until these last few days when I finally felt like I could say **** again. Maybe I'm an idiot for making myself this vulnerable to people who are likely just going to throw it back in my face, but this is how I feel and I'm putting it out there because I'm sick of this kind of **** for real. Why the **** can't we just make nice food in the kitchen and share it with each other? Why do I feel like Gordon Ramsay is breathing down my ****ing back when I come on here???
lol you're confused. What you are bringing up has nothing to do with "measuring dicks" first of all. I forge what I want. There is one version of Spellbound and the map is still there. Every change I have made to that map is something I have wanted to do based on a problem I was having with how it was playing. The end result is not what I wanted out of the project, so I will make a different map with the original intention somewhere down the line. I'm not going to stop working on the map because it's not interesting enough for Multi or something. The sangheli map was scrapped because I didn't like the layout. Multi said it was generic and I disagree, but I don't like it regardless, which is why I stopped working on it. I did stop working on an experimental symmetric version after Salty said it wasn't as interesting as the original, but that was after I specifically asked for that opinion. Ashlands was based on the original Blue spawn for Spellbound. I made that area symmetrical and created a map, which I played, found issues with, and didn't feel like fixing the issues, so I put it aside. Demption asked to test it again and I changed the art and some other geometry to make it more presentable. I still didn't like how it played, so I decided not to spend anymore time on it. Those are the only maps in this game that I have played. I value opinions - especially Multi's - because they make me aware of things i might miss, but I am not "easily persuaded". I just never back talk because I have not had a map under my belt. But I do now, and 99% of the community likes it. I don't really care if it lacks depth or is not good enough to a handful of people because it's a good map regardless. But if you ask me what I don't like about it, you'll hear my opinion, not anyone else's.
Because you're really bad at taking criticism. It happens to everyone, so you can either choose to take it and learn from it or just move on. There's nothing warranting a meltdown like someone had just double crossed you or some ****. When I first posted cobalt, goat told me that the breakout pieces looked awful and tacky. He was literally calling my entire map bad, but instead of freaking out I decided to ignore it. There was nothing to be learned from it, so I just moved on.
