Is there a breakout community? (own site/message board etc)? The problems with the gametype are essentially its core, which really harms the maps made. Id like to think they would take the initiative and try improve it first rather than just stick with the MM standard.
Not to my knowledge but we tried starting a Breakout League once. We got some support but it fell through.
Is this still a thing? If so please message me with the aforementioned design challenge! I actually like creating within given restraints.
Does anyone have maps to playtest this evening or is planning on attending? 8pm PST is when the lobby starts. Please post your GT and map name if applicable so I know who to send invites to. @Tom Cinder, I know you're still working on yours, but @Buddy Jumps, @Drizzy_Dan, @fame28, @Dunco, do you guys have any layouts you've been working on? Obviously, Salty, Goat, and Doju aren't working on any, but you guys are welcome to play anyway (And, more seriously, opinions from people who don't like Breakout would be very useful. If we've got a lobby of 8, we can also toss in a test on one of your guys' 4v4s after the Breakout finishes) I'm also going to ask some of the CF guys if they want to bring theirs, just to ensure we have enough bodies.
I'd love to play test any maps you have send me a friend request at my gamertag fame28. I will try to be on around that time tonight. I have a bunch of map layout sketches at home for breakout, but never forged any of them. I get these retarded ideas to tackle covenant remakes and they take up most of my forge time to ever complete. Halo 3 Assembly and now Midship in progress. I mostly only play Breakout as I enjoy it and think people don't give it enough of a chance. Problem is people don't like change and if they had it their way we'd all still be playing Halo 1 or 2 forever only. I can upload the sketches of the forge breakout maps and send them to you if you wanted to consider forging them?
Haven't started a Breakout map yet but if I do I would probably go about making it similar to the way a COD Search and Destroy map would play. I feel like a 1 life game type should be played much slower and have an objective to push for. Sucks that the only objective in Breakout right now is flag.
The gameplay speed per match is based on the map and heavily on the players play style. The only way to slow it down significantly in Halo would be to give a BR to everyone and increase the map size with a lot more room based areas on the map and extremely shorten the range of line of sights... It wouldn't translate well to an enjoyable experience in Halo I don't think, but if you build a map for it. I am down to test it.
Count me in for tonight's lobby! I need to warm up for my next TNT, and I want to see what maps people are putting together!
Add shields, replace Flag with a one sided bomb that swaps sides per round, and eliminate the forced aesthetic, then I'd probably enjoy Breakout a bit more...
Actually, most of these are things we are experimenting with for our internal Breakout initiative. One of my favorite things was using Arena Breakout (Shields, Magnums, ARs) on our Breakout made maps. It is a lot of fun and helps bridge Breakout and core Halo 5 closer together. Making a Breakout map to show 343 what would make Breakout better is in my opinion the best reason to make one. Some of my friends in Creative Force have made great maps for Breakout with this in mind, even if unintentionally in some cases.
Forgot to mention AR Magnum starts, but yeah if Breakout took some inspiration from Blast Resort it'd probably feel 10x better.
Don't think there's a Breakout Initiative lobby tonight but we can put on an impromptu one if @Sn1p3r C can make it.
