Alrighty, this is the official work in progress thread for my super cool forge creation formally known as "Storm Peaks". I'll be posting any updates or pictures, and encourage any and all to give feedback. So, without further ado, let's get into the pictures. Keep in mind that while the map has textures, I am far from done with the maps art. Here's a quick walk-through: http://xboxclips.com/xXandrith/936d40db-153c-499c-965d-1257308da28f As you can probably tell, I'm still experimenting with the layout quite a bit. The area I'm standing in at 0:47 in the video was only just added because I really liked the line of sight between the Aerowalk style teleporters. I also thought the map could've used 1 more spawning area, but how could I know that? I haven't even played a game on the map yet... So yeah, it's gonna change a lot. Help me do it faster!
OS respawn looks dangerous, always realy hard to compromise a layout for safe spawning. Maybe some negitive space above, like another tower cap or somthing.
Yeah, that area is a bit dangerous, but that's why the OS spawns there --- Double Post Merged, Jul 29, 2016 --- You're right, Asteroid rocks will look much better. Especially with snow. Thanks!
*Deep sigh* This map is likely going away... forever. I've gotten these stairs usable, but they're annoying, and that's not just not acceptable. Unless someone would like to make them smooth for me, I'm moving on.
The stairs look great and all, but you are ****ing yourself when it comes to grenades. Maybe just make them ramp sections the size of the walls they are connected to or make them blend into a continuous ramp. They are only seen from inside anyway, so it won't really take much away from the aesthetic you are working towards.
How about you not make them spiral staircases like a tryhard, and choose a more functional alternative instead?
Get it playable. Doesn't matter if it's smooth or not. If shooting through the stairs ends up being shitty gameplay, then you can decide to change it. Don't throw away one of the defining features on your map because it's annoying to build.
I'm thoroughly enjoying that everyone is just now telling me that they dislike the spiral staircases. Because solo ramps are ****ing boring and I refuse to build them ever again. Even if the stairs were solid, grenades wouldn't really be a viable option. Like I said in the Waywo, I don't think the stairs pose any gameplay issues that don't involve whiny halo fans being whiny halo fans because they've never had spiral stairs in a dev map. If you would be so kind, I don't care. As long as they are smooth. Let me upload a version for you to work on. The current version has double the normal amount of steps because I was trying to figure out how to get it smooth, but I don't actually want that many. I'll post in this thread when it's ready. EDIT: It's called Storm Jumps. Thanks
This is a map in the vein of old school shooters that always had unique gameplay elements to them. I think the fact that you can shoot up through the stairs gives an otherwise claustrophobic room more play and it enhances the map's identity. I wouldn't consider cutting them unless it was playing poorly, and even then I would continue to find a way to make it work until it was absolutely proven to be unsalvagable. I'm not sure what feedback you got to make you doubt the design or why you are blaming the community at large for disliking it. If you are forging a map for the greater Halo community, you will creatively stagnate. This is an original design that many players will appreciate, and as long as it accomplishes what you want it to, their opinions or preferences should not matter. I cut the blue deathpit on Spellbound because I could not art it enough to make players aware that it was there. I didn't cut it because people don't look before they walk off of a platform.
