Ah now this is a curious question. For many of us, Forge is a huge hobby and like all hobbies we have our inspirations. I didn't create this to make people feel bad or anything. Just trying to stir the pot on who inspires us to work our hardest in Forge. For me it would probably have to be @WyvernZu and @NOKYARD . Both have an knack for detail and accuracy in maintaining much of the classic Halo feel. Seeing them recreate some of my favorites from the past is super refreshing. As far as a map goes, Ancestor by @D4rkDeath and @weeeeemann is easily the best BTB map I've seen on Halo 5. When I'm on it I feel like I've been pulled straight from Halo 5 to Halo 3 again. (Then I get Spartan Charged and the dream is all over lol) What are some of yours? List away. I'm curious. Maybe there's someone in there that deserves that cred.
@SaltyKoala is the first person to say I can't Forge and subsequently ask for my Forge opinion the next day, and then change his whole forging style to be more like mine. A master troll through and through but almost always mellow as ****, so you can never be mad. He gets lit and Forges 40 maps a week and they're all different with their own lore, gameplay and art direction. A true visionary. I don't know how he does it, but I always look forward to seeing what he does next. @MultiLockOn is a pioneer of interesting layouts that go against the grain and introduce different gameplay. They're never formulaic and he has a good eye for art, so he always delivers a unique visual experience. Anytime I design a map, I ask myself if it is Multi enough. @xdemption's ability to **** out a playtestable layout overnight is nothing short of impressive. He's always willing to help others, but what I like best about him is that he always improves; his next map is almost guaranteed to be better than his last, and that to me is very respectable. @N3gat1veZer0 is also someone who builds unorthodox maps and they always nail the classic Halo map vibe. He's like a relic from the age of Halo Custom Edition, and his willingless to tirelessly iterate on these designs after feedback is admirable considering that he doesn't have to do it at all. I enjoy seeing his progress and am glad we have someone in the community who is taking the Halo art to the next level. @Sethiroth is at the point where he rarely forges his own maps. But he's always willing to lend and ear and offer crucial feedback to help tie a map together. If you catch him in a good mood, he might even forge the whole thing himself. He's a great guy who inspires other people to be more active in the community and I always learn something new when he's around. @WARHOLIC also doesn't Forge much because he rarely has time, but he dedicates a lot the time and resources he does have to this website and the community, and I think that deserves to be commended. Honestly, it's pretty crazy that this site has no ads and is able to run $1000 contests as often as it does. The 4chub hero we deserve. I could sit and list many more people but I'll leave it at these guys for now.
There are 3 people that inspire me to work my hardest in forge because they just keep coming back for more after years of failing to achieve their goals. They are: @Zombievillan Who hasn't given up on his quest to get a map in matchmaking. @Chronmeister Who hasn't given up on his quest to get a map featured. @A 3 Legged Goat Who hasn't given up on his quest to get a map released.
@Given To Fly When it comes to theme, art, and object usage, he's on a level of his own. @MultiLockOn You guys are lucky that he makes such abstract maps, because you'd all be out of a job if he didn't. @a Chunk Still probably my favorite forger, because all of his strong points are my weaknesses. He's also one of the most dedicated community members of us all. @Dweeb It's nice to have someone to make fun of.
I don't pay attention to any forgers (aside from long-time friend Toastman), nor do I go out of my way to look at other people's maps. Most forgers I have met either don't care about it as much as I do, or they are immature, or they are pretentious assholes, etc. There are very few people that take it seriously, but not so much so that it effects their attitude. And at the risk of sounding just like a pretentious asshole, the main reason I don't look at other forgers work is because I don't want to be influenced. I like to look at a blank canvas and figure stuff out on my own. If I am always comparing myself to other people, then my maps wouldn't be my maps. It's the same reason I will never do a remake of an old halo map or whatever; Where's the fun in that?
I think you're kinda missing the point. It's not that you are actively comparing yourself to these people or that you're leeching ideas. These are people that INSPIRE you. These are the people that in a way make Forge interesting or people who spearhead a bunch of cool things in the community. You don't have to be influenced or envious to recognize those kinds of thing. I'm sorry man, but that whole bout was a tad off key. You could have just not commented.
@purely fat Seeing the stuff he made in H2A but never posted had a big impact on me. My 1v1s wouldn't have looked anything like they did if I hadn't been influenced by his awesome maps. I need to get back to that forging style.
Wasn't trying to be rude. I thought what I said was relevant to this discussion. If you don't think it was, then I'll get back to not commenting on things.
Thanks for pointing out the fact that I've been failing for 8 years, lol. Just kidding, thanks for your kind words. I'm working on one more attempt but it's taking too much time & im afraid I'll miss a 4v4 competitive window. That's even if my map is up to snuff at that.
Well, aside from myself, I'm hard pressed to say I like anyone. But nah, I don't really have favourites, but I guess I can list a few I like. MultiCockOn Given2Pies PurelyAwful A3LeggedGimp FatedFart Hahkawat? TomFrench343i Sethiroth (I got nothing witty here) HandSoloXIII SgtXShitHead Psycho**** FlyingPoo Career45 (also got nothing on this one) Redicktion ObamaOnKFC aPolishTwat And greatest of all... Darkling Ninjas.
A far as specific people go, it's hard for me to pick. I honestly love seeing all of the crazy maps that appear here. I've only known about ForgeHub since May of this year, but I was forging back in Halo 3. I really don't have any specific people. I take inspiration from just about everyone. There are things I see from someone's map and think of all the different ways it could be used. Inspiration to try new things. I've honestly became a better forger seeing all of the neat tricks people use to make certain objects in their maps.
This is a fun topic for sure! I have been forging since day one and coming here for the last few years (thought I didn't make an account until H5). Despite my recent direction with Ancestor (my first real "Halo" themed map), I really love creating content from other things. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am the "Jurassic Park guy". I love stuff brought into the game from other sources, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, LotR, etc. I really enjoy the off theme just as much as I enjoy a true Halo theme. I have been inspired by many over the years, but I have to say the first person that really inspired me was @xXBarthXx. I had subbed to a few forge channels and loved seeing Barth's remakes, his style, patience, and care that he put into anything he did was just something that always screamed "fun" to me. @TurbTastic has always made some great mini games and his dedication to perfection is admirable. @WeedCough is another one that I have enjoyed watching evolve as he absolutely would not stop until Freak Show was perfect, /clap. As far as creativity, I really enjoy anything by @CaptainDireWolf, his stuff is always entertaining and his forge style is just so different from the norm, so I really enjoy that. Especially since I enjoy themes from other sources. @N3gat1veZer0 has to be someone that I always get his maps for my customs lobby, I enjoy his style and his maps always have smooth game play. @WyvernZu has had some of the best aesthetics in her work and I always love how much care is put into each map. @Zandril @xdemption @D4rkpr1nc3 @Xandrith are all people that put out some great work that I enjoy as well. Honestly, I have really enjoyed most of the old school forgers that have been around for years. Their content is typically polished, well thought out, and enjoyable. At the risk of being attacked (flame on), I must say that some of the old school forgers are a bit stuck in there ways and I would love to see them come up with something different, expand the horizons a bit. I think a lot of them that stick to one game type, or a familiar player size could really knock it out of the park at taking the growing experience of throwing something out of left field. I see some great up and coming forgers too. It is interesting how much things have changed with the new powerful forge from H5. It has been fun watching some of the new guys evolve into some inspiring creativity. This was a great idea, I had fun remembering why I forge, who inspired me, and who has helped me along the way. Shout out to Forge Factory for being a supportive team that genuinely shows they care about the community and longevity of what we all love to do.
Almost forgot, favorite map... So many to choose from. I think it has to be Illadris by @xdemption for nailing the LotR theme while presenting such a great game play experience, I could play on this map for a few hours and be totally satisfied.
