Foundry, was it really as good as it could have been?

    I'm just thinking back to when the heroic maps came out. Foundry was fully editible and was said to be THE forging map. And it is, but don't certain things about it get on your nerves?

    For example:

    Bottom of side walls.
    It sticks out so you can never put a box right onto it

    Things sticking out of walls like the big doors.
    You can't fit around these either

    The diagonal part of ceiling
    gets in the way when your building high

    The ridge around the ceiling
    lots of maps let you climb up there because blocking it off is difficult

    window panels
    cmon there impossible to place

    The big "claw" hanging from the ceiling
    gets in the way and acts as a climbing frame for spartans

    There's many other little problems that are to hard to explain in writing

    I know it's all part of rendering and making the map look more appealing but if bungie new it was a forging map why leave things in that would be problems.

    Yeah before the Heroic Map Pack came out and before it was announced. I was talking to my friend and I was saying "Man, I wish Bungie would release a giant empty room just for forge, how good would that be" when FOundry came out I was thrilled but after a couple weeks those little things in foundry's geometry started to frustrate me.
    I think the most hated part of foundry is either the curved bottom of the edge wall or the crane.

    The thing I don't get is the small gap between the platform and the wall opposite the stairs, in the sections on each side of the big metal divider. It doesn't serve much of a purpose, and if you block the outlet of that gap in any way, you have to waste budget filling it in so people don't fall into it and get trapped.

    I understand they wanted it to be realistic, but that edge around the wall is 100% not necessary. As with the crane...really bad spot for it. I can live with the lower sections of ceiling, but my most hated part is that damn pipe. It's ugly as hell, and it just seems to me to not quite be flush with the floor.

    Just make foundry bigger is wgat I say to do for that, at least there still releasing another map pack later in 08.

    Yeah I understand that they wanted to make it look like an actual map so people who don't forge wouldn't be pissed about spending money on the map, but really that crane has been in the way countless times... And the walls that are curved, why couldn't they just have made it symetrical.

    I'm just happy we even have foundry at all. Flat maps = win
