Anyone else been having pretty bad Forge block lately? I've had two maps on my mind for months, but neither of them I've been able to push to any kind of fruition. I can see and imagine the finished product in my head, but actually getting there, using the blocks and pieces to actually make (and in one case even blocking out the basic framework) seems to be nigh-impossible.
Yeah, nibbling around the edges. But I have made progress, made decisions and I think it will be semi ready for the "hey, geometry not just aesthetics!" part soon. I feel your pain.
What I tend to do when I have Forger's Block, is to just work on tiny aspects on the map and set goals for myself to accomplish that I feel are within reach. Once I achieve a goal, this already makes me feel a ton better and more positive about the outcome of the forge project in general. Nowadays I also just work on multiple maps at the same time so I can always swap to a different map if I can't seem to get any further with the one I was working on.
I've had many a forge blocks in the past, but a rush of inspiration usually comes around eventually. The last thing you wanna do is force it. Just let the universe take control (or whatever the hippies say)
My forge block isn't due to a lack of imagination, its a lack of budget. I've gone too detailed on parts of my maps and had to tone down my details just to have a proper layout since I tend to be a more visual forger. So for my type of block I would just say to be less detailed in early versions of maps.
I really don't have that problem. When I start a map I go from start to finish. Sometimes many ideas for that map pop in my head during forging I can't keep up. Mostly just visual things though.
If you're having bad forge block, you should use the new simple forge block. Saves you a lot on light map and don't have needless details. The size options aren't great yet but they're probably working on giving us more variety.
LOL? I start building a very small area, maybe just a doorway. I'll spend time just twisting blocks around until something looks cool. Then I scrap all the other garbage and use that as my starting point. A map usually comes to fruition many hours later but it always starts the same way.
I've pretty much had Forgers Block since Halo 3. Not sure I've completed a map since then other than my canvases, but I don't count those. Lol. I basically have multiple unfinished maps and the number only keeps growing.
I pretty much always suffer from Forge block, all the time. I jump between maps like crazy, and I never really get anything done.
When I get Forge Block, I take a shower. I generate the most creative ideas during a rejuvenating shower.
