From the very beginning, community creations have been central to the Halo experience. From stacking up grenades underneath an unsuspecting Warthog to multiplayer movie-making, the Halo sandbox has always been fertile soil for millions of moments and memories created for, and by, the fans.

In 2007, Halo 3 upped the ante with the introduction of a map manipulation tool called Forge, and quite literally changed the game forever, enabling a cascade of creativity, from new map and unique game type experiences to interactive art – all created by the community itself.

When Forge was redesigned from the ground up for Halo 5: Guardians on the Xbox One, it opened the door to even more inventive community-created content, pushing the boundaries even further to give players more power and control than ever before, and removing as many constraints as possible to allow for the creation of incredibly high quality maps. From the stunningly beautiful maps created by WyvernZu, to the hilarious mini-games from TurbTastic, we’ve been continually blown away with the countless crazy and creative experiences that Halo fans have made. As a famous Spartan once said, however, “I think we’re just getting started…”

Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re bringing this same spirit of creation and collaboration to the PC later this year with Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition for Windows 10. Best of all? It will be absolutely free. In addition to the evolutions already present in the mode on Xbox One, Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition for Windows 10 will include some exciting new features designed specifically with PC users in mind, including:

    • Keyboard & Mouse Support – For the first time ever, Forgers will have the option of using a keyboard & mouse allowing for more precision control than ever before.
    • Increased Resolution – Support for multiple resolutions including 4k.
    • Test and Play with Friends – Enlist the help of Friends to help build, test, and play your Forge creations on Windows 10.
    • Build on Windows 10 and Publish to Xbox One – Experiences built on Windows 10 can be published to and played on Xbox One, opening the doors for countless new experiences to be enjoyed by players all over the world.
If you’re already finding yourself excited about the incredible possibilities that are opened up by expanding Forge to the Windows 10 platform, trust us, you’re not alone. 343 Industries UGC Director, Tom French, and his team are already chomping at the bit to get these new creative tools into the hands of the community.

“Forge on the PC will finally give the mouse/keyboard editing precision the community has always been clamoring for. On top of that, an updated and optimized UI geared towards mouse interactions makes a lot of the inputs in Forge easier/faster than before.

Since we released Forge in Halo 5 we’ve seen so many amazing new things come from it – from weird mini-games we could have never anticipated to meticulously crafted maps that are even approaching the visual quality of internally built maps. The team has continued to wonder what we’d get if we could put Forge in the hands of as many people as possible, and making it free on Windows 10 literally gives the chance to anyone who wants to jump in and try their hands at building a cool new map for Halo 5. I’m excited to see what the future content from the community will bring!”

    • Tom French, UGC Director, 343 Industries
We’ll have a lot more to share about Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition on Windows 10 later this year, but look for even more exciting updates coming to the Forge experience in Halo 5: Guardians on the Xbox One in the coming months – including new environments, advanced file sharing capabilities, new pieces, palettes, props, and much more.

Im curious more on the possibilities, obviously we can assume, greatly halo 5 will be on pc, I really hope 343 takes a page from rockstar in this case, because i know people in a certain community already creaming their pants over this, as its obvious that forge would be a seperate platform, this opens the modding community up so much, and the build for halo online and halo 5 cant be that much different, but the one has been closed up to us for so long that this could be fun to tinker with, Non matchmaking Fun

This was exactly what I was wondering as I read it. I starting thinking maybe we will have the poor mans Halo MP. I know I've had some good fun bashing objects over my friends heads while in Forge mode, so at the very least I could have some cheap Slayer cheats playing with them in Forge on the PC. I thought it weird not to bring the multiplayer experience over though. Can't imagine it isn't on the list otherwise who the hell cares it's in 4k other than to bog you down as you build a map. All signs point to MP on PC.

As a side note, for a long time now I have wanted a low resource build of Forge on a handheld device. I would love the full meal deal, and with the power of the latest phones it's totally doable, but even just something that does low poly precision builds would be fun. Then when you get home (or out of bed) you could turn on the Xbone and there is your map in all it's shining glory.

Clearly this Warholic is trying to let us know, custom games and possibly custom game servers will be available on the PC. Its impossible to test anything other than slayer in forge and i doubt they'd put that restriction on us

Windows 10 is a privacy nightmare. I have 8 with a classic shell and everyday recieve a new pop up to "upgrade" to win10 for free. No thanks.

See how they only mention aesthetics and mini games? That should show you what they think of forge. They never think of it as a level design tool, let alone respect the arena maps we make with it.

Just an FYI, if you have automatic updates on or just regularly keep Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 up-to-date, they were updated with basically the same "spyware" and telemetry gathering Windows 10 has in the past year.

I just don't get that at all. Read it again. You can push the maps to xb1. If that isn't map editor for playlists what is?

Oh.. you're fishing warholic for more... carry on..

If you honestly think that you're somehow maintaining your privacy because you're not upgrading to Windows 10, you're delusional. Do you have a smartphone in your hand? That's 10x worse. No one has privacy any more on anything, who cares. It's not like Windows is actively watching you.

Honestly, Windows 10 is the best OS I've ever used. If you're not upgrading to it, you're making a big mistake.

I'm not so much talking about forge coming to Win10, I'm talking about how their language in the post betrays how they really feel about forge. They don't think of it as a level designer, they don't respect the "core" maps we make. All they think of forge is that it's a cool toy for making aesthetic maps and mini games.

Or they just recognize the fact that that type of content is more marketable?

I will agree with you that it's the best OS if we totally ignore the privacy issues.

My phone is about as locked down as it can get considering how sharetastic it wants to be. The real problem is that most apps say you must share immediately but hey you can disable that feature after we grab a snapshot of all your data. Trick is to disable internet before the install. Windows 10 is just as bad. You really have to run around disabling so much **** just to prevent it from data mining your pc. The biggest one is insuring you don't log into your live profile on boot. Your privacy can be had but it's a frickin nightmare.

Seriously have been wanting this for years... I wonder if they'll give us the tools to completely create maps like theirs. I wonder if this will bring mods to the table more easily.

Nope. They don't respect the core maps we make. That's all there is to it. Otherwise they'd feature more real maps and we'd have a 4v4 forge playlist by now.

guys windows 10 is fine, almost all of the tracking stuff you can turn off, when it's all turned off about the only thing being sent is basic information of your search queries, everything else stays off. just be aware that some windows 10 updates might turn the privacy stuff back on though.

also, Microsoft have been updating both windows 8 and windows 7 with similar but not as extensive tracking stuff how ever i don't think you have the option to disable it like you do in windows 10.

windows 10's performance and stability is a lot better as well, worth the FREE upgrade IMO.

      This is pretty cool!

I have plenty of time to forge as it is, so this won't do much for me. I'm just hoping this will let Chunk forge a little more;)
