I attempted to do something similar to what you were talking about, but I didn't have much luck. I did change it slightly and managed to come up with this: I like this better. Is it anything like you were suggesting? Haha, well don't feel like you can't use that style if I do. Chances are I won't even finish it, and if I do, it's likely not going to get much attention. Oh, and has anyone had any issues with the rotation tools? I just went into forge and tried to rotate an object horizontally, and it kept rotating at a diagonal angle, as if the object wasn't flat. Even reset its orientation and the same thing happened.
Check which kind of rotation you're on in the tool settings. I never remember changing mine (I always had it on object) but one day it was changed to world even though I'd never touched it. Maybe?
I believe you can change the rotation of an object between with reference to the world and with reference to the object by hitting down on the d-pad while holding Rt. Sometimes I think it works for me, but other times it doesn't. Maybe I'm just having false memories. @Mr Bouncerverse yeah that's close to what I was thinking. The fogginess has some different shades that differentiate it from the block color Question: a chroma in forge is a solid color (default lime green), but I think I've noticed a chroma have a water-looking texture. I think it was what @Xandrith used for the teleporters on his new map. Is the piece I'm thinking of a chroma? And if so, can you change it's colors?
Oooh. I like it. I still have a bunch of designs waiting to be built in Halo 5, but I've been thinking about designing something new based upon a theme or aesthetic. I've never really taken that approach before, so it would be a new experience for me. One of the options I was considering is based upon an image I've had saved in my bookmarks for a quite a while now, and your skybox/color setup fits it soooo well. I don't know if I'll actually do it or not, but it just struck me how well your screenshot matched this image.
It's using a Chroma, yes. You get the effects by aiming a light at it and changing the GOBO settings on the light. Essentially, it projects an image onto whatever it's aimed at. You should check it out. There are some pretty cool things you can do with it.
Well I appreciate the kind words. Feel free to use it though. I don't have a problem sharing lol. Okay, so I figured out the problem. It WAS related to the Object/World biz, but what confuses me is that I changed that option back and forth several times with no success, but when I changed it in the Map Tools section, it worked. Spoopy. Oh, and more questions. What's the best lava effect? I watched Mr Pokephile's tutorial, but I know I've seen better lava than that. Actually, the map Buddy Jumps posted earlier has great looking lava. Buddy Jumps...if you're reading this, what's your secret?
Pressing up on the d pad while holding RT changes the anchor point, not the rotation type. You change that by pressing up on the d pad while holding both triggers.
This judgement day is coming so quick. Could of had my 2v2 map at testing phase today but decided to completely scale it down from a 32x32 grid to 24x24. Rescaling sucks major ass but when youre so close to being able to test and then it gets ripped from out of your hands... Deleted mostly everything but platforms so you could see the difference. I think this new size is going to be perfect. Around 15 second walk flag caps. Now back to the lab i go...
I see people liking this post, but nobody saying "I'll do it". Ya bunch of scrubs! Anyway, I think I found a new lighting technique that works. I was applying it & testing out different piece colors then I went to save & the "save fail" message was appearing so it was for nothing.
Wait...do forge maps look different in custom games? I haven't got to the testing phase yet. Or did you mean before generating lighting?
Soooooooo about 20 days left, still haven't started forging a map. I'm totally gonna win this. Actually, haven't touched Halo in a few days. No interest in the game atm. Hoping you guys make some cool maps while I'm taking a break from gaming. Would love to play a **** ton of customstuff when I get back in the game again. Thinking of restarting my finance blog... maybe even start day trading and trying to get syndicated as a writer for Seeking Alpha. Anyone else a financestablished nerd here?
right now I'm playing around with the idea of having two teleporter pairs that swap destinations every minute or so, I think it could be an interesting mechanic to a map. Just have to work the scripting out how I want whenever I actually get a chance this weekend, been swamped with work and just havent felt like playing halo for very much at a time. Also scripted a bullet train that goes HELLA fast yesterday, its ugly as all sh*t but it works.
http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Mr Bouncerverse/video/14680633 Welp, gonna call it a night on the forging. Figured I'd post my progress. Not much, but I'm proud of it, seeing as how it's the most I've forged since Forge came out.
Why shut down his idea if you haven't seen his interpretation of it? As long as there is a level of consistency to this teleporter system, I don't see why it has to be a bad idea.
Collaboration between @Psychoduck and I. Major gameplay design changes were implemented based on observations and feedback from 5 or so games of higher level play/heavy stress testing last weekend. New routes through the trench, mohawks top mid, expanded landing pad platforms, up-scaled pathing around the teleporter structures to improve vehicle flow, new flag locations, and...the list goes on and on. Really excited for another round of extensive testing this weekend. Will be posting gameplay from that testing later on.
