I was thinking about old maps and how different I feel the creative mindset is now with the new forge set (and the change with every previous iteration of forge). It's interesting to see, but sometimes can lack the excitement that forging once had. I made a thread about this ages ago here.

    Just to bring some nostalgia for myself, and hopefully some others too, I wanted to have people post their most proud forge moment. That time where you had a breakthrough and loved the result. When you first got a hold of a technique like geo-merging, interlocking, or object floating via save, quit and reload the map. Maybe that time when you nailed an aesthetic piece or when you finally got your feature. It can be whatever! Just showcase one or multiple things. Add a screenshot for some visual stimulation for us all to show us your forge pride and joy (;

    -----------

I remember making this 2v2 map called Intertwined, which was essentially a small figure 8. I wanted it to look flawless and smooth. I kind of overkilled it with interlocking, but I thought it was BEAUTIFUL :') Complete with a destructible grav-lift bridge and death pit.

That's when I knew I wanted to be an astronaut.

Let's see your crown jewels. I want some inspiration. Let's have some fun with this.

EDIT: And in no way am I saying I'm higher and greater than anyone, I get stuck in ruts of the same style/feel/atmosphere all the time. I am by no means THE BEST. Just wanting to see some oldies but goodies and hear some good forge stories!

This monstrosity was not only my first and worst map ever, it also marked the proudest moment of my forging career. I was just so damn proud that I had actually completed a map. I still remember the butterflies in my stomach when I posted it. I remember going back to check the thread about every 5 minutes to see if anyone replied, and checking Bungie.net to see if anyone had downloaded it. It received a grand total of 0 replies, and I think like 2 downloads, lol, but I wasn't even phased. The feeling of bringing something out of my mind and into (cyber) reality was so satisfying. It still is, to be honest, and it's the only reason I forge. It's that feeling of self satisfaction I get when I bring a map to life.

I remember the butterflies and obsessive checking for replies on my early threads as well :')

However, my most proud forging moment was finally finishing this misfit:

    upload_2016-1-26_21-11-42.png

Gallant, I called it. It was one of the first forge projects I started in Reach and the first one I felt like I knew what I was doing when making it. It wasn't for months and months after the initial build and something like 6 different attempts that I finally figured out how I wanted everything to connect, however. Looking back, I wish I had done it much differently, but completing the first map I felt relatively confident in was certainly my proudest moment as a forger.

Edit: Good lord, I can't wait to forge again.

Got featured on a number of forge forums (including Forgehub) and different Youtube channels. Bungie even showcased it during a recap of a custom game event on their front page. Not sure how close it was to being added into Action Sack since I don't know of much that came from that special Bungie.net group, but at the time I saw game results with the proper people playing on it.

Then a few years later I noticed someone had remade it in Halo 4. It's awesome to think that I made something someone actually liked enough to remake. EDIT: @Zandril Wish I had gotten a chance to play on it.

Now if only 343 gave me stockpile so I could make it again.

This was the first map I made called Shipyard in Halo reach and I made it for the forge contest bungie held. I worked really hard on this and I'm really glad with how it turned out, it's also the only map I got to extensively test out and it was really fun.

I've went on to make other maps that I felt really proud of but I never really got them out there too much, I think the most a map of mine was downloaded was 2000 times, which believe me is still amazing in itself. Hopefully I can get my stuff out there more often now that I can record stuff on the xbox one.

I just want to come across at least one person that's downloaded and liked my map at some point just to have the experience of knowing that someone liked something I made.

This map was my greatest creation. I pushed myself further than ever on it. I worked on Ephasus more than @A 3 Legged Goat has been going through his latest design, lol. I can't remember but this was either my 2nd or 3rd feature but the best by far. Different game types used different bases & asym games played different than symmetric games. The map played completely different depending on what you were playing & I had 2 different weapon sets that showed up depending on asym/symm. Not to mention the natural base & back alley merging I did (before ghost merging came).

My biggest pride & joy & it means nothing now a days lol.

Taking Angst to the next level, due to Tyrant telling me it's broken.

It's not a forge memory, but it is a map design memory: Finishing my Murder Miners map, House of Agony.

RPAL - That In Your Base Stealin' Your Flag was a Monday Night Halo custom staple back when my crew played during REACH. I tried remaking it in Halo 4 too, but never had the time nor the crew to run it with. I loved playing that map so much. Good to know I have you to thank for such nostalgic Halo moments, so much laughter and chaos. Thank you!

I want this back in Halo 5 so bad.

Completing my two first maps and posting them here, Corridors and Jettison (both made on Halo 3 Sandbox). They were both pretty rough maps, but a lot of my friends enjoyed them, and they both ended up making it to Bungie Favorites. I was so proud that I wasn't the only one who liked my maps.

Wow, this is a great idea for a thread! I remember @Erupt working on Gallant for ages back in Reach. I had the pleasure of learning quite a bit from @xzamplez with Angst (I refuse to even watch that video again because I'm sure it was horrible), and Stealin' Your Flags was one of the few mini games over the years that I've actually found genuinely enjoyable to play. Lots of cool memories here already.

I think my proudest moment was a point in testing Panic Attack where the map's design was really validated. It was an experimental map intended to blur the lines between traditional arena play and BTB. Trying to combine these styles tended to sacrifice elements from one camp or the other, but this map finally succeeded by creating an infantry experience not entirely unlike Sanctuary with a really fun vehicle circuit. That my BTB friends enjoyed it was nice, but what really began to validate the design was when ColdFusion and other sweaties who professed to having never been fond of BTB or vehicle gameplay said that they actually enjoyed the map and what the inclusion of vehicles in such a way brought to the table in more of an arena setting. Finally this thing that I had been experimenting with for years just clicked. Fast-forward a year or two and I was both surprised and excited to see several others begin to incorporate similar design elements into their maps after I put out a video explaining some of the theory behind it.

I can't believe I had the patience as a sixteen-year-old to systematically save-quit float every single box on this map, and interlock them all together.

I'm also quite proud of the moment I was sitting in a dingy room at a United Way office doing volunteer work with @Felipe dos, when I turned to him and said "I have this ridiculous idea..." One thing led to another, and I'm still super proud to have been the slightest bit involved with the result:

My proudest forging moment has to be when I remade Sandbox in Halo Reach using a modded canvas with like 400 wall, coliseums :p
    Screenshot I just took: http://imgur.com/lgACBRe

Many games of drive or die were played on this beast.

Although it is not an original design of mine and I never released it, Downrush. It is the only map of mine that I've ever been 100% satisfied with. I loved everything about the entire process and completed product: the adaptation of the design, the forging of the map, the aesthetics, the gameplay. I loved everything about it and I must've played over 100 games on it.

I've tried recreating it in Halo 4, Halo 2 Anniversary, and Halo 5 but none of them have been able to come close to how I feel about the original one I built back in Reach. In fact, nothing that I have completed since Downrush has come close to capturing how satisfied I was with this map.

I'm glad to hear you guys enjoyed it that much. Thanks for the awesome comment. :)

All I really need is the option for flag carriers to drive vehicles. I think everything else about the gametype can be achieved using Neutral Flag. Maybe 343 can give us a custom flag variant like they are doing with the ball one. Ultimately, I never remade the map in Halo 4 because I didn't want to take anything away from the original. I didn't want to cut corners just to make it work. I firmly believe we shouldn't be losing gametypes between Halo games.

I also think Stockpile was one of the most versatile gametypes for minigames. The core gametype was fun to play in matchmaking as well. It really should be brought back.

Yeah, Stockpile and a couple other gametypes really opened up the scoring possibilities of Custom Games. We should not lose gametypes from game to game, and the fact that they are holding gametypes from update to update isn't serving the community they are trying to build. It's just frustrating everyone.

If you ever need someone to test a new version of the map in Halo 5 (if it ends up working) I'm on board.
