I know everyone here who makes maps has at one point though about Mirroring a structure that you build? Head to the Halo Channel Forum and vote for it. VOTE FOR MIRROR OBJECT GROUPS NOW! *vote here to.
Part of forging is having the creative ability to be able to mirror what you have made yourself, without help and without a tool. If you give the player the option to mirror everything, it simply takes away the beauty of spending time on what you've made. Make half the map? Just mirror it! Nah I don't think I like that idea. Good post though.
Being able to group your entire map and flip it is perfectly okay, but mirroring it is obviously just too far. Seriously, how does mirroring require any creative ability whatsoever? It's nothing more than menial and tedious work. Since when does cutting down on the menial stuff so that people can spend more time focusing on the map's actual design take away from "the beauty of spending time on what you've made"? If you don't like the idea, you're free to waste time mirroring your map yourself. But mirroring would be useful for so much more than simply flipping half the map, I know I would personally use it a ton while working on aesthetic features.
To me, there's no real downside to adding this. Sure, it makes it easier to build symmetrical maps. I guess I can somewhat see why experienced forgers wouldn't like that. However, the benefits of adding this option far outweigh the downsides. Forge is simultaneously getting simpler AND more complex. I think that's a good thing. We increase the depth for those that are able to handle it, and increase the simplicity for those that are less experienced. Being upset that something is too easy is a bad excuse to keep out basic features. It reminds me of the people that used to complain about Reach forge being too easy to use just because they spent tons of hours building maps in H3.
Guys why is everyone acting as though Forging is a competitive sport. Good grief. This post was not suppose to about that. its all about making it easier and less time consuming when it comes to map creation. I mean does it really make a map less impressive because it took less to create. Its not about "Creative Ability" There will always be forgers with "Creative Ability" So why not make it take even less time to produce impressive forgings and get even more maps into the hands of the community faster. *PS Sorry M0aHerder for offending you. SMDH --- Double Post Merged, Jan 16, 2016 --- I totally agree with you. its not about Creative Ability. Im sure 343i and Bungie had a mirror tool. **** I have mirror in AutoCAD and 3dsMAx. Why not forge right?
Alright cool. Im glad you admit its not for you. But come on. We have all seen maps that took multiple hours, SUCK. and maps took less time be great. So to the basics. It comes down to would the feature be nice to have. Thats a Hell yes..... YES! It doesnt hurt the Creative ability at all.
Feels like a real struggle to post your opinion on a Forgehub thread now days.. lol After all, it was a question to be answered. Not to be rudely debated. Cheers
Agreed. Strongly disagree. People are going to, and should, build symmetric all maps. Probably 75% of my favorite maps are at least mostly symmetrical
For anyone who didn't catch it; I was being sarcastic. I figured there's no possible reason why anyone would be against having a mirroring tool, but here we are! Probably because 'creative ability' is a dumb argument to limit people's ability to do simple things. For the same reason some people had this ridiculous hard-on for Halo 3 Forge because they learned how to use that counter-intuitive, user-unfriendly piece of **** and didn't want Reach to make it easy for people to do the same with little effort. Creating the actual map should be as easy as possible. Making mundane tasks like mirroring objects easy opens up people's time to actually get creative with the map design instead of wasting time on recreating half a map.
So its rude to discuss our opinions over an opinion you posted? Anyways, I'm always an advocate for giving the people more to work with. In the end, it will be about map design, and there are no tools you could add to help people create interesting or well thought out maps.
Pretty sure @Overdoziz was poking fun at the poll, as if this needs a poll. I don't see anyone saying no to making Forging easier unless they're one of the people who think there should be some kind of Forge skill gap. Granted, that is a bit ironic coming from me. Back in the day, we couldn't rotate pieces on an axis. Building Forerunner geometry in particular took a whole lot of math and a steady hand - especially when the map was not centered. So I took pride in being one of the few who could pull it off. When you've done things the hard way, you appreciate the knowledge you've gained from it, which doesn't go away even when it becomes easier. But I don't see a reason to keep things difficult. I would have never become a Forger if Reach didn't change the physics and coordinate systems, and I'm sure Halo 5 has done things that have brought new people in once again. I thought this Forge would come with some kind of mirror system. It's currently the bane of my existence when it comes to building terrain maps. Duplicating basic geometry is easy, but mirroring terrain, especially when rocks are involved, is why my map has only had one side built for almost a month. It would be a difficult system to design however. Mirroring requires an object to be flipped. This is fairly simple to accomplish with a symmetric object, but when you mirror asymmetric objects they appear out of position. A mirror system would not be able to create a mirrored version of the object because that would mean the game would need to have over a thousand mirrored versions of the current object pool. What the system could do however is automatically calcuate the position of the object, invert the coordinates and pre-rotate it 180 degrees along the specified axis. They might even be able to translate the height variation as well.
Guys the idea of this poll and i hope everyone is taking the time to vote using the link as well, Is to see if we can rally enough support that 343i actually listens and works on a solution for this idea.
Hello there. I've recently signed up just for this thread. We really need this feature. Here's just a reason why we need this: Unless you feel like solving stuff like this to perfectly mirror a [96x96x20x] 'Quarter Ring' piece from the right to the left, then we need this feature implemented
