I still have a **** ton of work to do on my coag remaster and im already having a great time doing it. The terrain should be fun also
Man I'm ready to show you all my take on forerunner! There's a few "trapazoids" though so I hope it looks okay.
almost at a showing point for my take on covenant, interested to see how schnitzel reacts to "ALL THE CIRCLES", I've been trying to keep it semi accurate to actual covenant style of building rather than just throw circles everywhere and make sh*t purple. After work today I'll try to get it to a point I am willing to show it off at.
I was reluctant to embrace them at first because it felt like cheating, but they honestly feel amazing on the Forerunner stuff. It's good to mix them with square blocks though to get the different dimensions. Thanks @WARHOLIC . Now we need to get hexagons and wedges in the game. @SH1FTY found some neat wedge pieces on the ends of the trims but I'd like a whole suite of those. it's really only 343 that went full on the curved circular stuff with this game, and it's not just Covenant. The UNSC stuff all have rounded edges (I supposed to contrast it from Meridian) and even the Forerunner stuff got some roundness after Halo 4 and now in Halo 5. Bungie's Covenant started off being mostly straight but it got rounder over time as well. I'd go back through Halo CEA or H2As High Charity missions to see how the devs modernized the flat geo Well let's put it this way - you're not going to lose points in a competition if you use "the wrong colors". But given how much variation there is within the Covenant theme, I wouldn't want to define arbitrary limits on what should and should not be used. I have my preferences of course, but either way the map has to go through basic color theory where at least 3 colors are present to give it a sense of depth and contrast. That's just basic design. A certain shade may look better, but if someone wants to make a pink map and call it Gruntland then by all means. Long as there are other colors to tell the floors from the walls and other areas of interest. That's why we have Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors after all.
Meh, my spelling took a hit while living abroad for most of the past decade. Crucify me. @Aschur I've already voiced my complaints about the take on covvy aesthetics most forgers are doing. Terribly overboard on the use of round objects. Not a fan. --- Double Post Merged, Dec 31, 2015 --- I want cylindrical trapezoids.
If we had more pieces to use, I'd be all for imitating the roundness found in later Covy designs, but as it stands, I feel attempting so at the moment makes the aesthetics look forced and a bit tacky. Going with a CE / H2 style though is completely doable. Another thing to note, Covy designs use more colors than just purple and pinks. I've seen a couple forge maps already that seem to have overlooked that.
glad my map has gold on it then. So i don't have to feel schnitzel rage but I am still probably going to add some black just not sure where yet.
floors. first thing i would do is add dark detail to the ramps. we've already seen some castle themes and even a metroid map so it wont be long before other stuff joins, especially when Infection is added to the game. We have never been able to make Covenant geometry though so expect to see that for a while.
that is most likely because I have found some pieces I like as floor accents just not sure what color to do with it. I still have to finish aesthetic stuff on xzamples map and have to other maps to work on so it is not a priority. Here is what it looks like color wise at the moment. http://xboxclips.com/purely+fat/screenshots/59403ff8-696d-40ed-966b-2141d6f6d35d
While I don't give a crap about themes at all, I feel like reminding others that there are more themes than just covenent, forerunner, and unsc. In light of people being anal about circles and trapezoids I am not saying this to pass judgment, but I hope to see more than just "Halo" themed aesthetics from those people who've been advocating aesthetics since forge's release. Halo 5's forge is great is it not?
I agree with secret it's just a generic trapazoid map looks nothing of forerunner it looks like some sort of alien race and there God is a giant floating trapazoid head. Needs more other kinda of shapes like some circles or squares or less trapazoids....
Here's a theme haha. This is the updated version of the previous post I made with the four levels. After much frustration and downscaling, It's become 3 levels and about 3/4 length. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. More images here! http://imgur.com/a/bCUCv
checked out Zircon. Couple thoughts + Geometry is wicked cool. It's not just a bunch of trapezoids - the angular theme is present throughout and it makes the map feel very cohesive. + Everything in the middle is cool. The sword balcony, the tower, and even the smaller tower across from it. - Everything around the middle feels like part of a different map. I like the windows you can shoot to from the sword, but the flat paths thereafter don't make for interesting play space. Honestly would scrap all of the flat paths and retool them for a more innovative design, perhaps repeating the theme of angles for more gradual pathways that lead up towards the middle. Not necessarily bridges, although it's a possibility. - Not really keen on 2/3 of the map being blue and the other third being red. + Did @Res say this was Forerunner? Because my first though was Somebody change her name to Derezzed.
Yekkou your map looks crazy! I would like to play that map some time if you're doing a testing lobby looks fun with all the colors :3
@purely fat . Sweet thats good to hear. I am trying to become a active member again in terms of feedback and interacting with the community. EDIT.... I just downloaded it. The way you have lots your objects interlocked makes it where you cant clamber. Thats something that needs to be fixed. I can show you some ideas
I actually never said it was forerunner. I'm not going to lie, I definitely thought about it when constructing the towers and such, but that's because I find forerunner architecture inspiring. Because it's a halo game, the first thing people think of when they see architecture like that is "she's trying to DO forerunner" but to be honest I just threw down like two trapezoids, **** my pants because they looked awesome, and put some more down. & Do you have alternative ideas for coloring? I've tried orange but it looks so disappointing and dull compared to the other colors - although I don't think I've checked with blue overlay on. Dunno if that would make it better or worse, but the red does seem to pop so maybe... And I'm definitely working on tweaking the camo half of the map and the bases, they're pretty lackluster. I suffer from zealot syndrome when it comes to bases most of the time, and it shows. edit: orange looks sickkk when blue process is on, thanks for saying something about the colors because I wouldn't have checked again
